Exclamation No Audio!?
Hi there, I recently had a computer crash due to a virus affecting the startup of my computer. Due to this, I had to re-install Windows and I lost EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, the only Windows available to me was Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 2 I believe), seeing as I have no way of affording the Windows I had before. Now, my mother figured out how to get MSN messenger back (Although it's the old, horrible version) and I can't use any other programs, due to Windows being too old. I can't even access Windows Media Player, or Movie Maker!! Ugh!!

To make things worse, I have no audio!!! I'll go on a video site like Youtube to watch things, or to listen to music (Seeing as Media Player isn't working) and the audio doesn't play! The speakers work fine, but nothing comes out!

So my question is, (well, technically I have two) is how the heck I get my audio back?! I tried looking it up, but I am tech challenged and was immediately confused by all the audio driver, sound card, etc talk. As well, I tried troubleshooters, provided by Microsoft, but the Windows is too old to use them!
Also, is there a way to use my Media Player and Movie Maker again? Cause these programs are supposed to work, and are very much required for me right now, seeing nothing else is working either.

Thanks! And keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing, or anything about computers, so pleeeassse try and keep it easy for me to understand!!

Hi Jessiful, and welcome to TSG.

For now, let's concentrate on the sound problem. The first thing we need to know is what brand (HP, Compaq, Dell etc) and model computer you have. You can find this either on the back (for computers) or the bottom (for laptops). This will help us to search for the drivers you need to get the sound working.

Alrighty, so I know that it's a Compaq brand computer... however I don't understand what you mean for the model? The only thing I could find that made any sense was the model number? If that's what you mean, I believe it's PE1160... Sorry if that's not what you meant, it's all could find.
Thanks.
