using printer after Windows re-install
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I have an HP printer installed on my portable HDD - E:\ drive, actually also had a partition in my C drive before, but after re-installing Windows I only have the directory left on the portable HDD (E:\ drive), not C:\ as it's been cleaned out. However, I can use other programs if I shortcut their icons from E:\ such as old games even though I don't have any C:\ directories anymore, the thing is of course that printers don't have icons and you just use them. So, can I use the printer with a directory only on my E (portable) drive without the need to re-install it?

Re-installing the printer would be your best option just to make sure all the files and everything that are required are in the right place, shouldnt be hard at all if its a new printer.

I wouldnt recommend accessing things the way you are doing as stuff gets moved around in the registry and files go missing wont exactly hurt the computer just the stuff may not run 100%.

If you post your printers model number and manufacture I will even help you track down the driver you need for xp.
