Failed Windows update installation

Since Nov. 11 when I turn off my computer, I receive a message that Microsoft Updater will install a critical update to my computer. The update icon shows up in my taskbar every day. After going to the Microsoft website and checking my update history, I see that the needed and attempted installation is "Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB973475)" with a "Failed" notation, every day since the 11th. Can anyone tell me how I can get this update to successfully install?
