Unmountable Boot Volume Windows XP
I tried the chkdsk and fixboot but that did not work. Continues to go back to the blue screen. I do not want to reinstall for I want to keep the data I have on my laptop. Dell Inspiron 1520. Any suggestions????

Whats the stop error you are getting? Example: STOP: 0x000000ED This is the first portion of the error. Post it if you can

Unmountable Boot Volume may mean that you're file system is corrupted. A repair install could fix the problem; Repair Install step by step Another option is to download this app and build a recovery CD; DiskInternals Boot CD But I think the repair install will do the job. BUT! If it doesn't, Try the other option.

Still want to see the stop error though!

Here is the message that was on the screen:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart yoru computer, pres F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

stop: 0x000000ED (0x8AFd3900, 0xc00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

By the way, I have not installed any new hardware or software. Thanks
