Solved: Change letter of harddrive
Is there a way to change the letter on a harddrive? Windows assinged the letter "H" to it while installing the OS. It was my falt. I pluged the USB's into the motherboard before installing windows XP.

tiggerldl,

I'm pretty sure you are going to have to reinstall in order to change the system drive letter.

The best way is to re-install with the USB disconnected. It'll take less time than trying to find all the registry entries that would need to be changed, and you won't have to worry about missing one, and having it cause problems 6 months from now, when a drive letter change is the last thing you'd think of.

You can easily change drive letters by going into your Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Computer Management, and finally Disk Management (located under the Storage tab).

You can right-click on any of your drives, both internal and external, and choose "Change Drive Letter and Path...", and then change it

The poster is talking about the system drive. If Windows even allows you to do this, you'll still end up with a mess and likely a system that won't boot.

You need to reinstall.

It can be done, but it requires third party software and a two-stage approach. If you've never attempted anything like this, it would probably be easier to reinstall.

Or, you can back up everything and have a go at learning something new.

Thank You, everyone for your help. I will have to reinstall, after unpluging the USB ports. I know I can change the letter. But that just changest the name. The harddrive is still assinged the letter "H" or what ever. I was looking for another way to change this that would work.
I got in there, hooking things to the motherboard. And didint even think about that. And after the computer was up and running, a slap along side my head, I remembered.
Thank You for your help

Or you can be another odd duck like me who enjoys having an I drive or G drive as the main system drive.
