XP Won't Start, Even in Safe Mode
I need help starting my computer, here's the situation.

I was using IE 8, and it started to freeze up. After that, all parts of my computer started to freeze up, so I decided to restart it. It was booting as normal until it got past the Windows XP loading screen. The screen turns black and the mouse appears, but it stops there. The mouse is responsive, but it's just a black screen.

Can someone help me? I'm using my friends computer to write this out now, but I need my computer very soon.

if you really can't access safe mode then perhaps you should try to repair XP

I agree, as dotty said. If you still have your xp disk, chuck it in your cd drive and boot your computer off it and try repair it.
If that doesnt work and you have all your data backed up then you can always re-install xp. If you dont have your data backed up you can always try taking out your hard drive, putting it in your friends computer, saving all your data on that to take off later. The just wiping your hard drive and putting xp back on it (I just did something similar and found it very convenient.)
Good luck.

Sorry Dotty, the procedure in the link didn't work. The CD went through the motions of fixing XP, but it's still the same: black screen with a mouse pointer. Is there anything else I could try before scrubbing the whole drive?
