The latest minidump file comes from January 21th, 2010. The other ones are quite old. I'm afraid these files are useless to troubleshoot your issue.

Wait until the mini dumps are analyzed. They might pin point the cause of the problem.

They have been analyzed. The latest minidump file from January 21th, 2010:

Probable cause: ser2pl.sys

ser2pl.sys: The process USB-to-Serial Cable Driver belongs to the software Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge Cable or CA-422 Serial port driver by Prolific Technology Inc (www.prolific.com.tw) or MS3303H.

http://www.file.net/process/ser2pl.sys.html

The other minidumps date back to August 2009, 2008, 2007...

No problem. I was only saying that I have already looked at the minidumps yesterday. They weren't much help. We would need recent ones.

Sorry. I'm afraid I don't understand the above. I think this refers to a USB cable driver that I have installed for my mobile phone that I connect via a CA-42 cable.

Can you make this simpler for me to understand?

What I'm saying is that the minidump files are quite old. Therefore, they most probably do not account for your actual problem.

I've done a search through my registry for any entries for the game I installed before I started having problems: Beijing 2008.

I found an entry for this game in HKEY USERS/S-1-5-21-1417001333-1770027372-725345543-1004/Software/Microsoft/Windows/MenuOrder/StartMenu2/Programs/SEGA/Beijing 2008.

I'm aware of the dangers of changing anything in the registry but this game is not installed on my machine anymore. Is this what could be causing my problem? Would it be safe to delete this entry from my registry creating a system restore point first just in case?

Have you tried running your computer in Safe Mode? See if it crashes the same in that mode.

I know how to start my computer in safe mode but is there a way for me to run my VHS to PC converter program in safe mode?

Which option do I select from the safe mode menu when I press F8?

The idea behind Safe Mode is not to run your computer in that mode indefinitely. I'm only trying to troubleshoot your problem. I want to know if your computer still freezes in Safe Mode.

You need to select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking (for Internet access).

Your operating system appears to be installed on a D: drive, so the relevant minidump files would be on that drive.

Very good observation Frank4d. I'm so used to dealing with the C drive that I missed that when asking for minidumps.

I think my PC's fine in safe mode and doesn't freeze. In fact, it hasn't locked up in normal mode when I haven't done anything for a little while now. It's just when I try to convert my VHS tapes to PC or convert my DVD's to other formats using a DVD ripper.
