You can slipstream in post SP updates as well, but can run out of space if you want to keep it CD size, especially if adding several drivers.

This guide goes through quite a few customizations:
Slipstreaming Windows XP

It suggests disabling System Restore and SFC which I don't recommend as I've found both have been useful, but you can if you want.

Very grateful - bookmarked for future experimentation.

I downloaded Service Pack 3. My new question is...Can I just burn it on a cd and use it when SFC calls for the Service Pack 3 disk to be inserted? I do not want to reformat my PC just fix the unrecognized files. Wouldn't SP 3's function be as SP 2's only later updates on it?
Guess am looking for easy way to do this. Please bear with me.
thanks Again and again.

I've never actually tried just extracting the files and trying a disk with just the service pack files on it.
It may work, but you may end up swapping disks back and forth a few dozen to a few hundred times, as not every file is changed by SP3.
Files that weren't changed will be on the original disk, and they will be interspersed with files that haven't been changed. The first time SFC is run, it can add anywhere from 1000 to 3000 files or more to the various cache folders.

You don't need to reformat, just need to create a CD that includes the SP3 files so SFC will work with it.
