Unhappy Defrag scan canceled due to error in file
I have a Sony laptop FCG-FXA36, with Windows XP Home Edition.

It has been operating really slow since I downloaded and ran the "Advanced Registry Optimizer 2010" from www.zoombli.com on 3-3-10. After downloading, I ran both the registry clean-up and the Optomizer several times. The program responded with statements that I was eliminating progressively fewer errors with each run. After running these programs, my system was operating at a snail's pace!

I thought I might correct this problem by restoring my system to an earlier date. Restoring to March 1 did not help, and it would not restore to earlier dates.

Then I thought it might help to run disk cleanup, and defrag. Disk cleanup, cleaned about 20,000Kb.

I started defrag and soon received a message on the screen stating that the: "scan canceled due to error in file: C:\WINDOWS\LEXSTAT.INI"

Can you help correct the error in the file, and get my system up to speed again?

Thank you!

Never ever download or install and use a registry cleaner/optimizer/booster/tuneup program - no matter what it claims it can do. It will do nothing to improve speed or performance. What it will do is break certain programs and damage the operating system - which appears it has already done.

Hopefully, you didn't get suckered into buying the program.

Most registry cleaners will save backups of what it deletes out of the registry. See if that program saves backups and if so try to restore the backups.

Some optimizers have an option to restore the system to the way it was before using the program. See if the program has an option like that.
