Angry XP Pro Backup always fails
Hello,
I have been trying for almost a week to backup my system (complete disk image) using the Windows XP Pro backup wizard, but it always fails. I am backing up to a 32 Gb flash drive with more than enough space, but I always get errors of the following type:
>>>>
WARNING: Portions of "\WINDOWS\Installer\3ca0a.msp" cannot be read. The backed up data is corrupt or incomplete.
This file will not restore correctly.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\WINDOWS\Installer\51a15.msp" - skipped.
Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.
Warning: Unable to open "C:\WINDOWS\Installer\51a1f.msp" - skipped.
Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.
>>>>

Each time I try to do a backup, it fails in a different place. I have done everything I can think of to fix this, incl. disk check and repair, disk cleanup, all kinds of malware removal, you name it, but still cannot get a successful backup. I've also tried the basic and advanced backup wizard options, with same result.

FYI -- I have a SOny Vaio laptop, and my Windows is up to date ( SP3 plus auto updates ).

Can anyone help me ???

regards, Jim

Welcome to the forums.

If you are trying to create an image of your complete system including program files and data similar to what Acronis True Image does, the windows ASR wasnt really designed for that. I never could get it to work properly, dont know anyone that has, and dont know anyone that uses it, but i`m sure it probably does work, sometimes. Also, somewhere during the process it should have asked you to insert a floppy, thats part of the process, do you have a floppy hooked to the laptop?
Here are some guides on using the ASR, but i think most would agree that you are better off using ACRONIS or the Easeus mentioned above, or one of the other free Imaging tools that work very well, are easier to use than the ASR, and can restore your complete system including program files fairly quickly.
