Crashing issue, virus?
Hello,

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Mini 10v.

SPECS:
Dell Inspiron 1011, Intel Atom
CPU N270 @1.60 GHz
1.60 GHz 0.99 GB of RAM

I've had some strange crashes recently and wonder if I have a hardware conflict or a virus. Mostly Firefox has been suddenly closing (not often, but sometimes) and also Skype randomly closes due to an error.

Tonight my computer crashed randomly and the error signature after restarting was:

Error Signature:
BCCode: 1000007e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 804EF16E BCP3 : F7A0CC74 BCP4 : F7A0C970 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product 768_1

Ok, as I'm typing thSkype just "encountered a problem" and closed, which has happened every day for the past three or four days.

Any suggestions on where to begin?

Thanks!
KM

I am not getting the blue screen of death. The apps crash (firefox and skype). Should I still do this?

I got an error today asking if I wanted to run the Dr Watson PostMortem debugger. I read that the Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger appears when you become infected with the AceBot Trojan Virus. But only on XP SP 2 machines (I'm on SP 3).

I've run AVG and it didn't detect anything.

Also, I just noticed some weird files in my C drive. One is a shortcut named "My" (I don't think I created this). Also, there's a folder named:
f663e3e060d369650bc3803ec9e2f8

Thoughts?

Thanks!
sg

Hi download BlueScreenView - it may show what driver etc is causing the problem.
Also run Event Viewer..
Start>run>type
eventvwr
Check under Applications>let us know what you find.

hi blues harp,

Here's a screen shot of events manager and one of BS View.

I'm not sure what to look for? If you tell me I'll look, or I can post more screen shots?

Thanks for your help!!!

Seems to be caused by Microsoft Fax.
Click Start>run>type
msconfig

Click on Services>untick>Microsoft Fax.
Apply>Ok.
See if that helps.
It can always be re-ticked if needed.
Do not make any other changes while in Services.

igxpmp32 - relates to your video drivers.
You may need to update the drivers - Video - sound drivers etc.

Check Device Manager.
Right click My Computer>Manage>Device Manager.
Any exclamation marks?
If yes>click on the + >highlight the device and right click>Update the Driver.

Could also be a Ram [memory] problem.
You could test the Memory.
http://www.memtest.org/
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Download and burn the ISO to CD
Boot from that CD and run the memory test overnight or at least for a few hours.

<<Check Device Manager.

There are no exclamation marks.

IE is now crashing too. I got the "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger encounted a problem" message this morning after IE crashed.

I'll run memtest today.

Thanks!

Hi.
I feel stupid asking this, but my Dell Mini doesn't have a CD drive. I downloaded the ISO from another computer onto a jump drive, but I can't figure out how to boot from the jump.
Thanks,
KM

I missed the Dell Mini 10v in your first post!
No exclamation marks in Device Manager - strange.
Your minidumps show many errors.
Not sure why IE is crashing.

Run a memory test -for the memory test you will need an external Cd drive.
Download and burn the ISO to Cd.

http://www.ultimate-netbook.co.uk/De...rive___681.htm

DrWatson Postmortem Debugger.
Click Start>run>type
drwtsn32

What errors are reported?

Go to Skype> Tools>Options>Advanced
Untick Start Skype when I start Windows.

Or in Services.
Start>run>type.
services.msc

Scroll down to Skype>right click and set it to Manual.
That will stop it running at start up but will open when you need it.

Run the memory test and let us know what it finds.
Also post a Hijack this log - to see what is running on your Pc.

Hijack this 2.04
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Also post the Uninstall Log.
Start HijackThis.
At the bottom right hand corner>under Others stuff.
Click on Config.
Then Misc Tools.
Then Uninstall Manager.
Save List>paste the list in your next post.
