Unhappy pc will boot up only in safe mode
The PC is running on XP. Dual core amd. System is just over a year old. Service pack 3 installed.

When booting up normally the screen goes blank (not blue).

It boots up OK in safe mode.

The RAM is 2GByte and is OK ....tested it on another PC.

The hard drive is OK ....tested it as a 2nd drive on another PC, and files are all there. As they are insafe mode. There is only the CPU and mother board as well.

Tried to reinstall windows from original, but get blue screen with error message. This occurs with a different drive as well.

On a previous thread by Zabusant I loaded Gpart and ran it. It seemed to work asking me various questions, but then the screen went blank.

I should have said I ran spybot and removed some nasties DOSs but this has made no difference. I also ran a registry cleaner (gusetup) which also got rid of some faults but has not fixed the problem. I reloaded all the drivers but this has also made no difference.

Could the motherboard be at fault even though the PC runs in safe mode? I don't want to ditch the Asus M4N78-AM board unnecessarily.

Any other ideas would be welcome.

thanks

Malcolm

When trying to reinstall the XP OS, it does load drivers and files, then the blue screen. Tecnical info after the error message is
*** STOP: 0x etc some addresses
*** pci.sys -address F748E0BF base at F7487000 date stamp 3b7d855c

There are no pci cards in the pci slots but it looks like the pci bus is at fault. Is this fault hardware or software?
