Exclamation Help please
Hi,
I have Windows XP,SP3. When my pc is booting up,the black information screen shows 2 options,one for Windows XP,the other for the system recovery.After having some problems with McAfee that required their tech support, the pc now always starts the recovery process-unless I'm right there to click on the up arrow key.
I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup,& all that's there by Sourcepath is E:\
I also checked the system config utility,& it shows the following:
timeout=3
default=C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partitions(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

How do I fix this so it'll boot up normally? Thanks so much for your help.

This line below is your default boot. ini
default=C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT
That is why it is loading to recovery console

This line is what your default BOOT.INI SHOULD BE
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partitions(2)\WINDOWS
You need to replace the first line, with the second line.

See this

Read the Save AND Edit procedures on here.
PLEASE FOLLOW IT CAREFULLY and do exactly as it says.
ALSO, in future please start your own thread, it becomes too mixed up, if you post on another thread.

An easy way to this is:-

Right click ‘my computer’ and choose ‘properties’.
Click on the ‘Advanced Tab’ then click on ‘Settings’ in the ‘Start up and recovery’ section.
Under ‘default operating system’ click on the ‘drop down’ box and select ‘Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition’ as your default.
Uncheck “time to display operating systems” then click ok.

You should not see the black information screen now.
