Screen Stuck On Wallpaper
I've been looking all over and I can't get this fixed.
My XP desktop only shows my wallpaper. I can open programs using Task Manager.
I can't run sfc / scannow from task manager - it just flickers a square box and disappears. Nothing changes. It won't run.
It won't let me open any antivirus program.
I think it's still a perfectly good computer. I don't want to scrap it.
What should I do?

Firstly have you also posted this problem on the members account Spring13.
If you have, please see the message on that account. If both are NOT you, please ignore this part of the post.

Do you have the XP CD
While you post that reply, press F8 on start up in and start in Safe Mode, that is just Safe Mode., not Safe Mode with networking.
If the computer loads Safe Mode AND you can now open My Computer right click the HDD carrying Windows and click Properties, click Tools, click Error checking, click check now, click to check the box "automatically fix file system errors", click START, agree to run on restart and do so.
DO NOT INTERRUPT IT.
Report results pls.

Kindly open task manager > process and just that explore.exe file is there or not . If not then click file > new and just write explore.exe and then click ok.. Restart your computer and just see that whether you can see the icon in the desktop or not....

In the future, please do not copy someone else's post word for word, even if you have the same problem. It's very easy to put it into your own words and then we won't waste time checking to see if you're posting under two different names when the time could better be spent helping you or someone else.
