Solved: Computer slow to respond
My computer is very slow to respond to the keyboard, to close dialog boxes, to toggle between programs, attach files to emails, etc. We just moved and switched from Cox to Verizon FIOS and I noticed this change shortly after. I suspect there are some background programs conflicting with each other, but I'm not sure what should stay and what can go.
Many thanks!

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This can significantly increase your Startup time and affect overall performance.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig

Select the Startup tab.

Uncheck the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet

Reboot the computer.

After rebooting, when the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a check mark in that window, then click OK.

You should get rid of Uniblue RegistryBooster 2 before messing up programs and Windows itself.

Thanks! I noticed the Uniblue Registry Booster when I was looking at the startup apps earlier in the week. There is no directory in Program Files called Uniblue and it doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs. Would it be hiding somewhere else?

Try removing Uniblue RegistryBooster 2 with the help of the free Revo Uninstaller.

The Revo Uninstaller is unable to find the Registry Booster. Maybe it doesn't exist any more?

If it has been uninstalled already, then you're seeing leftovers.

Run HijackThis again.

Select Do a system scan only.

Put a check mark on the following entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uniblue RegistryBooster 2] C:\Program Files\Uniblue\RegistryBooster 2\RegistryBooster.exe /S

Click Fix checked.

It's not in the list. It is still in the MSCONFIG startup items, but unchecked.

Simply have HijackThis Fix the entry.

There is no entry in the Hijack this log. As long as it stays unchecked in MSCONFIG, can I assume it is gone?

Recheck it in msconfig, then Fix it. HijackThis will delete the registry entry and you won't see Uniblue in msconfig anymore, checked or unchecked.
