Angry Solved: .net framework
I installed xp professional on a Dell Optiplex 270 and installed a new pci card. The card is BizView 128 / ATI. When I tried to install the driver for the pci card, a message came up that I needed .net framework minimum of 2.0. I downloaded net framework 3.5 from the Microsoft site using a different computer (no internet yet and that's a different problem) but it appears that I need internet to download the net framework to the Optiplex. I think I can't get internet because of the pci drivers not being installed. It's a catch 2 situation. Previously I was able to get internet on this computer before the new pci card. I used an adapter with driver and ethernet. When I try to install the driver for the adapter now, I can't and the new hardware doesn't show up in the task bar. So confusing... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Liz:

Microsoft NET Framework 2.0 is required for some programs and drivers to install - which you've already found out.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Because you've just installed Windows XP Pro in that Dell OptiPlex 270, some of the device drivers didn't get installed because they're not in the CD's database.

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager.

Advise what's listed in these headings:

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Other Devices

Sound Video And Game Controllers

Try not to make any typos.

---------------------------------------------------------------

What's the 7-character "service tag number" on the sticker?

Display Adapters-Radeon 9250, Radeon 9250 secondary

Network Adapters-None

Other Devices-All question marks and they are: AX88X72A, Ethernet controller, Multimedia Audio controller, Video controller

Sound Video And Game Controllers-Audio codecs, Legacy Audio drivers, Legacy video capture devices, Media control devices, Video codecs

Couldn't install net.framework. Need 2 to do it. Help!

Service tag number 1WFFK51 is registered to this Dell OptiPlex GX270 desktop. You should add and save this site to your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can refer to it when needed.

Here is the "Drivers & Downloads" site for that desktop for Windows XP.

According to what you have listed in the Other Devices heading in the Device Manager, that desktop is missing the drivers for the audio device and ethernet device. The entry for the graphics device is probably for the integrated graphics that you replaced with an ATI Radeon 9250 video card. I'm not sure yet what the AX88X72A entry is.

Here is the driver download for the audio device:

Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio

Here is the driver download for the ethernet device:

Intel Gigabit LOM

Download and save the audio and ethernet drivers, but don't install them yet.

Double-click on these entries to open their properties window, then click Details(tab).

AX88X72A

Ethernet controller

Multimedia audio controller

Video controller

Look for a string that has VEN_####&DEV_#### as part of the string.

Advise what the 4 characters are that follow VEN_ and DEV_.

Be real careful not to make any typos when submitting them here.

Haven't had a chance to do anymore with the computer but I do believe the AX88X72A is an adapter I tried to install that connects the ethernet cable to the adapter and the adapter is plugged into the usb port. Before I installed the pci card, the ethernet adapter and internet worked fine so I know it is functional. I never had sound though and the monitor resolution was off. Now the monitor works fine, but still no sound and I am missing drivers and?

I can't do anything else right now until you provide those 4-character vendor and device codes that I asked for so the device identities can be confirmed.

Ethernet Controller is Ven 8086 and Dev 100E
Multimedia Audio Controller is Ven 8086 and Dev 24D5
Video Controller- No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device
AX88X72A - No longer shows up probably because I disconnected the adapter

Thank you for helping me with this. Liz

Click the links that I've provided to download and save the drivers.

After they've been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click the saved files to install them.

Restart your computer after installing each one.

The video controller didn't have a string with the vendor and device codes?

No the video controller had nothing. I'll check again when I get home just in case I missed something.

Download and save this driver for the video controller, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to start the install process.

Let me know if it works.

I downloaded prowin 32 and all boxes were checked with exception to Intel (R) network connections snmp agent stating it was not installed.
When I tried to install analog devices adi 198x a message came up stating the hda audio bus driver is required and not found so I couldn't install.
The last link you sent "this driver", I couldn't install because I don't have an internet connection and the option to save wasn't available. This is where I am so far. Thanks...

These XP drivers for the sound, network, and video should work.

Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio

Version: 5.12.01.3555

Intel Gigabit LOM

Version: 7.0.34.2

ATI Radeon 9250

Version: ATI Catalyst 6.4

I downloaded all files successfully and I do have sound now. I still can't access the internet. The adapter does not come up as new hardware to install when I plug it into the usb port and the driver for the adapter on the cd is not recognized. The driver name is ax88772. Because I can't access the internet I cannot download net framework which is required for the new pci card. That's the update. Thanks... Liz
