So I have a HP Pavilion dv9715nr, it came from the factory with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have recently reloaded this machine and installed Windows XP Pro on it.

The problem is that I can find this computer on the HP website, but it does not have drivers for Windows XP Pro.

Any ideas as to how I could get around this?

Here is the support site for the HP Pavilion dv9715nr laptop which you should add and save to your browser favorites/bookmarks list so you can readily refer to it when needed.

Even though it's been out since the fall of 2001, Windows XP is still the most popular and most used operating system in the world. Because of this, many people who have bought a new computer with Windows Vista or Windows 7 pre-installed have made the downgrade to Windows XP.

Unfortunately, many of them have failed to confirm if Windows XP drivers were available for all of the computer's devices before they made the downgrade. The end result was having a computer with Windows XP, but with one or more of its devices not working.

According to the product specifications section and drivers section for your laptop, it has these devices:

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M graphics and chipset

Conexant High Definition Audio or Realtek High Definition Audio sound

Atheros AR5007 or Broadcom 4321AG/4322AG or Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 wireless connection

Synaptics touchpad

There should be Windows XP drivers available for all of these devices.

The other devices, such as the media card reader and fingerprint reader, will be a problem.

Go into the Device Manager, then click the + in

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Other Devices

Sound Video And Game Controllers

Advise what's listed in each of these headings - exactly as you see them listed there.

Some of the descriptions will be obvious, but others will need to be identified by their vendor/device codes - which we'll get to later.

I have tried the video driver that you have specified but it does not work. When trying to install it, it says something to the effect that it was not able to find the hardware associated with this software.

I had the same issues with the audio driver.

What are your ideas for the remaining items listed in the device manager?

Double-click each of those entries that has a question mark next to it. That will bring up a properties window for it.

Click the "Details" tab, then select "Hardware Id"(if it's present).

You will see a string that has VEN_####&DEV_#### as part of the string.

Advise what the characters are that follow VEN_ and DEV_. Be careful not to make any typos.

Those vendor and device codes will allow the devices to be identified so we can determine if Windows XP drivers are available.

The PCIDatabase site doesn't list this device, but a Google search determined the vendor and device codes to be for this graphics controller/chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M/nForce 630M

This is the Windows XP driver that's listed for that graphics controller/chipset.

Please see the attachment. This is what I get when I try to install the linked driver.

I have got the sound driver installed. Had to edit a .inf file to do make it work.

Is it possilbe I would have to do the same thing for the video driver?

Go to the Windows Update/Microsoft Update site, then do a "custom" scan.

Once the scan is finished, check the hardware section and see if a display driver is available.

It ii is, select it and then download and install it.
