Go to Start – Run - type msconfig – click OK and click on the startup tab. Uncheck everything there except for your anti-virus program. Then reboot and let me know if the problem persists please.

Yes, the system still freezes. A couple of other things, Cookiegal. First of all you said '..except for your anti-virus program", I didn't have any anti-virus program listed in the startup, but I guess that doesn't matter for this problem. The other thing is when I unchecked everything there (and rebooted and system froze on clicking on a video) then rebooted again in "normal" I don't remember which items I had unchecked and now everything is checked. I'm sending a snapshot of the startup and maybe you can tell me what exactly I do and do NOT need to have checked. Would help me a lot. Thanks.

Then try unchecking all the NON Microsoft services (be sure to note the ones you have checked this time before unchecking them) and reboot and let me know if the problem persists.

Hi Cookiegal,

Just wondering, first do I really need to do that now? Yesterday, in the late evening I found a site to update my Video Card driver and after the update went through, the videos don't freeze anymore. They all play fine.
Could it have been something as simple as a video card driver update?

Secondly, as I said in the previous post, the msconfig. has everything on it, and I sent you a screenshot of it asking you to tell me which I needed and did not need...I haven't a clue as to what they mean..they are (most of them) totally gobbledegook to me. I know you showed what I had before but that doesn't tell me if they were essential or not. I would appreciate you telling me exactly what is definitely required and what I can do without.

In your previous post (no. 63) you said the system was still freezing so I was trying to troubleshoot that. Yes, updating the driver could have fixed the issue.

It's far too time consuming to research all of the startups to see what is and isn't needed and many of them are user's choice depending on your needs so I will give you the resources to research them yourself and decide what you don't need to be running at startup. Here are some great links to look them up:

Here are some final instructions for you.

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and all of its files and components.

• Click START then RUN
• Now type ComboFix /uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /uninstall, it needs to be there (the screenshot is just for illustration but the actual command used the entire word uninstall and just the u).
  
  

Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous system restore points, then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

To turn off system restore, on the Desktop, right click on My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a new restore point, click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools and then select System Restore.

In the System Restore wizard, select Create a restore point and click the Next button.

Type a name for your new restore point then click on Create.
