You could try downloading the KB2481109 update executable file from the Windows Update Catalog site. Download it to your desktop, open the folder and launch the executable file. I do this with ALL my windows updates.

Did a bit of Googling and found you are not the only one with this problem. Some stuff about it on the MS Technet forum. So far it seems to be related to a couple of *.dll items in the System32 folder, but no definitive resolution so far. Here is a link to what I'm talking about.

Installed RDP Client 7.0 then ran update again and had this update to do:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB2483614)
Seems to have fixed the fail to install on KB2481109 as it is no longer showing to be updated. Not sure what it is all about, just saw what the other fellow did and bingo, it's all better

elisheva is right! Open control panel click on add/remove programs, check box to show programs and updates. Remove windows security update (KB956744) then install update (KB2481109) and your good to go.

To work around this problem
This problem only affects Windows XP based computers that were updated by using updates to address specific issues that are not delivered by Windows Update. For example, computers that have "Limited Distribution Release" (LDR) branch updates installed.

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods: p.s
You can install manually KB969084 (Remote Desktop Connection 7) and avoid all the hassle.

During some "tidy up" I must have deleted some update uninstalls. Anyway neither of the two main workarounds for this problem worked on my XP Home last updated Nov 2010. So I restored and tried this (thanks MPV):

My update then worked flawlessly (and didn't need KB24781109 at all).

I have no idea what Remote Desktop Connection 7 is and no intention of using it. (Indeed I have remote logons disabled in the User a/c I use online by means of polseditx32.exe, which I recommend BTW).
