    Tried a windows repair from Vista cd, That didnt work either. Backed up - Reformatted the drive & reloaded Windows & drivers - Problem solved. I dont think there was another 'fix' for this issue apart from a reload. :( Thanks to TerryNet & SpywareDr for your time & trying to help. :up:

    I have also scanned for virus/spyware issues using security essentials & Mbam. - Ive also run Combofix. The system seems clean.

    At the moment: Windows firewall - I have tried setting this back to its defaults before deleting/reinstalling nw card drivers. Windows security essentials. I have also run the Norton removal tool & the AVG removal tool in case these had been installed/uninstalled in the past.

    I said in my first post that I have tried a usb network adapter which works in my other pcs. I get exactly the same errors/results. when I use it in this lappy. - Yet it works in linux. No I dont want a permanent installation of linux on this lappy - before anyone gives me that solution. :-)
