Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Well, point of fact, in Post #5 you were referring to DVI-D to VGA adapters and, as far as I know, the inexpensive ones won't work with my graphics card. The cable I've brought, Displayport-to-VGA, is a completely different system.

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Just to sum-up: The people at displayport.org (i.e. the people who invented and administer the Displayport system) got back to me and have informed me that all Displayport-to-VGA adapters are active ones. So, it turns out I didn't really need to fuss about selecting the "right type", as...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Okay, I feel like I really need to clear something up right here because there seems to be confusion about it. I. Am. Not. Rich. I know we all live in an age where the trend is to chuck $800 iPhones in the bin when they turn 6 months old, but I don't have a life like that. I have long been...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Wait, I'm confused... Are you saying that going through a Displayport to VGA adapter will be inferior to my currant set up? How do you figure? Surely any signal imperfections associated with VGA are ones I'm experiencing already with my currant DVI-I->VGA connection. Why would the new...

    Ram issue

It almost sounds like something in your OS is behaving as if it's a 32bit system. 32 bit systems have trouble comprehending anything over 3GB RAM. What does your POST screen say, Re: RAM? To me, that would be the defininitive check for a hardware failure.

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

When you say "downgrading the signal", I assume you mean downgrading it from the card's maximum capacity, and not downgrading from what I currently get from my DVI-I to VGA setup? If the picture quality is at least as good as what I get now, I'll be happy.

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Look, TBH, if it turned out that my best option was the $50 adapter, then I would seriously consider going with a new monitor. But I still want to explore all of my options. If a $6 adapter or cable going through one of the other outputs will do the job, then obviously that's much better then...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Well, the whole reason I came on here was to consult with experts who I assumed would be able to tell me for certain which method (I suspected either Displayport or HDMI) would allow me to make the connection as cheaply as possible. I'd hoped that after reading the responses here, I would be...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Thanks, but if you go back to my previous reply to flavallee, you'll see that similar adapters on the website he recommended are bombarded with negative reviews from customers who say they don't work. I have done some research into this before posting in this forum and everywhere I look states...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

What jumps out at me is that most of those DVI-D to VGA adapters that are in the lower price range have shockingly bad ratings and numerous customer claims that they are useless. The cheapest one that seems like it might work is $22.73 - after converting in to my own Australian dollars, that...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

Yeah, my currant card (Radeon HD 6870) has no VGA, only DVI sockets and some other ones, and I have it hooked up to my monitor just fine with a DVI-to-VGA adapter. Hence, when I brought a new GTX1070, and I saw it too had a DVI output, I just assumed that I would be connecting my monitor in...

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

I've had numerous sources tell me that the only kind of DVI-D to VGA adapters that will actually work are $50+ ones. But there are indeed numerous cheap DVI-D to VGA adapters on the market. Apparently they are utterly useless because they don't translate the signal properly, even though the...

    Problem with my system

That occurred to me, too. Basically, as the power demands of the PC increase during the boot-up, an ailing power supply just can't keep up with the demand and so basically the whole PC suffers an internal blackout.

Connecting a GTX1070 Graphics Card to a VGA Monitor

I need to connect a Gigabyte G1 GTX1070 (8GB) graphics card to a Samsung SyncMaster 940N monitor. It's just a single-monitor setup. The only output sockets on the graphics card are DVI-D, Displayport 1.4 (as far as I know, they aren't DP++ ports) and HDMI. The only input socket on the monitor...
