    Yet another IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL nightmare...

GREAT! Love to see threads where the fix is documented... going through issues myself lately and totally forgot your excellent idea of taking pictures of bluescreens instead of writing them down. We all know how we tend not to write down all that gibberish. Had the camera standing close by...

    Yet another IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL nightmare...

Sorry to get your hopes up with a worthless response, but I think the idea of taking pictures of error screens is great! Not much else to contribute here, since you already tried Memtest & the MS mem diag. Say, would it void your warranty to remove non-essential hardware items singly, such...

    The perfect defense

Let me add Windows Update to 700's list above. Gotta plug the holes as they're discovered. For me it's: SpywareBlaster SpyBot AVG AV and Kerio 2.x All free. and Powerquest Drive Image 2002 with a second hard drive (Not free) and you're setup pretty well defensively. And Mailwasher and...

    Registry Cleaning Software

I've been using RegSeeker 1.06 (free) as part of my "I can live without paying for Norton now" suite of free applications and it works for me. Unfortunately I can't find a link for it now by googling or from within the prog... :( I hope it's not gone off to pasture. The comparison chart on...

CD Drive contents not refreshing in Explorer

Here's what happens: Pop a cd into either of my drives, open windows explorer and view or copy files or whatever. Pop the CD out and a new one in, it still lists what was on the first one and throws errors when clicking on the (old) files listed. This happens even after F5-refreshing or...

    AVG problem(free edition)

If you are comfortable with working within the registry, you could search in there for Grisoft and AVG and manually remove references after un-installing again. But be careful! There are registry cleaner programs out there that may help you remove references as well, such as Easy Cleaner and...

    AVG problem(free edition)

Since you are able to run a scan from the tests menu, it doesn't sound like a virus has disabled it. (Not sure if AVG is affected by this anyway). I'd try uninstalling & reinstalling as kwyll suggested.

    windows me,2000,xp

BTW Windows 2000 detected all my old hardware on it's own, no inserting any driver disks at all during install. :)

    windows me,2000,xp

I recommend windows 2000 also, it runs just fine on my ol' PII-333 with 224 megs of RAM. The difference between it and Win98 is incredible. Smoooooooth!!!

    backup utility

What I use is Powerquest Drive Image 2002. You may need 2003 for XP, not sure.. This requires adding a second hard drive to your computer so it's certainly not the cheapest solution. It creates an exact image of your hard drive's contents and can use compression to get the size of your...

    kazaa

If you are going to use Kazaa or better KazaaLite, be sure to have an updated antivirus program running on your system. AVG Antivirus (a free AV program) found and dealt with a little present Kazaa delivered to me last night.

Ultra ATA (UDMA) 33 vs 66

Thanks for the good info! As I suspected the difference will probably not be very noticeable, it's just nice to use a piece of hardware to it's full potential if possible.

Ultra ATA (UDMA) 33 vs 66

Thanks Brian! I didn't think about separating them by channel. Not that she will notice/care whether it's at 66 or 33 when moving up from a PackardHell P-133 to a P-4 1.8....
