I've recently put together a new win 7 machine and I wanted to setup a little network to get some file sharing going on but I am at a loss. My knowledge of networking is way too old, like ipx/spx netbeui old..
Anyway, this is where I stand.

Bump, of sorts. I see you folks are pretty busy these days :)
Since I didn't get any responses I dug in and found a post close to mine. I used the combofix.exe solution along with Trend Micro's house call, along with AVG finding stuff after, and Ad-aware is now working again.. I am posting...

well crap. as soon as I felt it I knew I caught something. I was searching for metaverse worlds and clicked on a link for hipihi . the link was caught by my script blocker but being an idiot I thought all was fine and clicked okay. Zonelabs finds nothing, I can't update the files for Ad-Aware...
I think what willyboy is asking is how to have ZA start earlier in the startup process. I notice network connectivity before ZA launches and it seems that ZA appears to be the last thing to load. Curious if that is a hole or not. Perhaps this is a good reason to have a hardware firewall?
I'm getting a slight hang on shut down. It happens so fast I can't catch what it is. I get a program not responding message but I can't tell what program or what could be causing it.

1.1 ghz intel celeron, 512 megs of ram, 20 gig hd, dvd drive.
It has the original HP disks, XP Home. I blew out the heatsink (full of this crappy city dust), opened it up and everything looked clean enough. It was full of...
OK, so I appear to be having issues with this web site now, (posted to web and email). I just replied to this and nothing appeared.
to to quote above, is is an old habit from the days before security was the issue it is now, trust me I've already changed things. ;)
more to add.
it's weird. Some sections of the web site are storing my information correctly, like the main page, the main forum page, sometimes looking at threads. Some pages show the last link I clicked highlighted as usual, but some pages look like I've never been here before, just right...
for some reason now I cannot cache my password with this web site. Everything I want to do requires me to re-log in. Using the current version of Firefox, XP Pro. I did run cleanup and that did some damage, not sure if it's that or not. I also installed the full Zone Labs Suite to try out so I'm...
I know this. I don't store anything in any folder that is a legitimate windows temp folder or temp folder created by any applications. What I *do* create are temp folders within my music archive where I store raw recorded vinyl albums, before any processing. That's what died. I am irritated but...
