    Timer Failure Troubleshooting

It turned out to be the video card. Put that in a completely new build and got the same issue. Still not sure how that was preventing both computers from even attempting to power up, but so it goes.

    Timer Failure Troubleshooting

Yeah. I'm not shipping anything to the manufacturer unless it was new and under warranty. Easier and cheaper to buy a new motherboard. But I'm curious about how it doesn't even attempt to power up. Even with a somehow corrupted BIOS, wouldn't it still at least attempt to turn on? As it is...

    Timer Failure Troubleshooting

No. The computer was running as usual when I went to bed, but was dead in the morning. I've never messed with the BIOS on that machine.

    Timer Failure Troubleshooting

I can't find any identifying info on the mobo itself. It's a rebuilt HP using an Intel chipset and DDR RAM. That's about the best I can do by sight. I'm not seeing any identifier on the motherboard, by number or name. But I could be overlooking the former since that's not a thing I'm familiar with.

    Timer Failure Troubleshooting

Hey. A few weeks ago I started up my desktop and got 4 beeps. Nothing else. No power evident. Just the 4 beeps that would sound, pause, then go again, etc. Discovered it was most likely a timer failure. Made sense - I'd been lower on RAM than I'd have liked, figured one of the sticks failed...

    Cannot Access Secondary Hard Drive

Hello. I've been using Win10 for a while now, no major concerns. I have a drive I use as storage, which I used to have in my Linux machine as the boot disk. I reformatted when I put it in my Windows machine, but left a partition or something so that the computer still wants to boot from it. I...

Solved: Hard Drive Not Activating in Windows 7

I appreciate the help. Didn't have any luck with the first program in that link, but the third one worked. Which is all I needed. Just a way to get at the files. I suppose I'll take all I need off that drive, then wipe it clean and use it solely as a storage device. Thank you very much.

    Trouble with Language Pack

I recently got a computer with Windows 7 Professional (64, SP1) pre-installed. It's in Swedish, but I'd prefer English. After doing some research I gleaned that I cannot use Windows Update to get the job done, as that is only an option in other versions of Win7. So I tried Vistalizator. It...

Solved: Hard Drive Not Activating in Windows 7

So I got lazy and bought a new set-up, everything installed and ready to go. I added the old SATA drive I had on my Ubuntu rig, as it holds a lot of storage and has files I'd like to access. However, I cannot find anywhere to access it. On start-up the computer sees it. In disk management it...

Computer won't power up with ATX12V connected

About a week ago I was on my system (stable desktop unit, unchanged for a few years), browsing the web, when it suddenly died. Kaput. Would not power back on. I smelled nothing - either signs of a blown PSU or motherboard, but I nevertheless went out and bought a new PSU. I'd been using a 500w...

Solved: Headaches with bootable pendrive (Ubuntu)

It is solved. Finally. I formatted the pendrive to FAT and tried it using only the programs endorsed on the Ubuntu site. That worked, It booted and I installed it. Thank you for the help.

Solved: Headaches with bootable pendrive (Ubuntu)

Have started over again from scratch, using a different installer. everything else is the same (new copies). However, this time around, I am being told that both the syslinux/syslinux.cfg and syslinux/txt.cfg files are not being copied, and that it will not boot as a result. I have seen both...

Solved: Headaches with bootable pendrive (Ubuntu)

Same error message with a new pendrive. I just don't get it.

Solved: Headaches with bootable pendrive (Ubuntu)

That's the most frustrating part, as by all accounts this is a very simple procedure. But like I've said, the pendrive was given to me pre-loaded by a guy who knows his Linux. Of course there was a chance that it was a bad copy. I've since loaded two other programs (including the one you've...

Solved: Headaches with bootable pendrive (Ubuntu)

It's certainly frustrating, but it is also a good learning experience. I might not take it in stride so much if I didn't have this old Windows machine to use in the meantime, but I figure sooner or later I'll get the new one working and it will feel like a real accomplishment. Which is probably...
