    I would use ezflash ive known the ASUS update to cause problems. I would suggest updating the BIOS then remove all the USB parts under device manager and re-install them. Hopefully this should sort the problem for you.

    Make sure the SATA Native Mode is set to "Enabled" then run your XP setup disk see if it picks up your hard drive.

    Is there an option in your BIOS to swap to PATA or IDE Native Mode? It sounds like your hard drive is SATA. If you then run the repair option it should pick up your hard drive. Its worth a go before you look at buying a new hard drive.

    I would give the BIOS upgrade a shot, check the revision readme to see if its mentioned too. If you press pause on your keyboard whilst booting it should tell you the revision number on the POST screen.

    LOL well maybe they arent as reliable as I first said. If you look on the hard drive it should give you the model number if you search for that on your parts supplier site or call them they should be able to help you out. I still think Seagate is the way to go though

    I agree sounds like the hard drive isnt too happy. You can test it for sure with the diagnostic CD from the manufacturer however you will need access to a PC to do that. Ensure you buy the exact same spec of hard drive to ensure it fits correctly. It might be worth looking at a different...
