    "Missing Operating System" after reformatting

I recently reformatted my computer to start all over with a fresh copy of XP Pro. I ran into a number of problems, though. First, I was missing the ntldr, so I made a boot disk from this computer, then it told me I needed hal.dll. I tried downloading the floppy boot disk setup from Microsoft...

    hal.dll

I was trying to install WinXP on a computer that had 98 on it. I reformatted the HDD to NTFS, and when I rebooted, I got an error message saying that ntldr couldn't be found, so I made a floppy with ntldr, ntdetect, and boot.ini, which solved that problem. But now I have another problem I can't...

    IP address won't change

Thanks for telling me that, but I still don't know how I can change my IP address.

    IP address won't change

I just wanted to bump this back up because I still haven't found a solution. I've tried everything I can think of, plus everything you guys have said, and nothing will change my IP address.

    IP address won't change

I would really rather change my IP address on the computer rather than have the router do it. Right now both my roommate and I are manual. My computer is the problem here. The IP address won't change, no matter what I do. I just want it to be set to 192.168.1.2 because for Port Range Forwarding...

    IP address won't change

To TW56: Yes, it's a wireless router and yes, I have a wireless card. The ipconfig thing did not work. To bearone2: Yes, the modem is connected to the internet port. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to get online. The Network properties were set to Obtain IP Address automatically before, and it...

    IP address won't change

I'm running Windows 98, and I just bought a Linksys wireless router for my DSL. My problem is I can't change the IP address for my computer, and the router won't automatically assign it for me. I know I have everything typed up right in the Network Configuration Properties, but still, it never...

    LILO woes

I got LILO working again, thanks to you guys (and girl). You've all been a lot of help. I now know the correct way to install different OS's on one machine. :D It's alright, I got it figured out. It was a pretty simple problem, I just wasn't thinking right. Thanks for the offer though. ;)

[Solved] I want to go back to 98

I finally got everything figured out. I just put in my 98 boot disk and used the "sys C:" command to get back to 98. I then deleted all of my XP stuff, including pagefile.sys, boot.ini, ntldr, and ntdetect.com. Thanks for all your help guys.

    LILO woes

Thanks. You guys have been a lot of help. I'll do that, just as soon as I get my other problem figured out. It's a windows thing, so you guys probably couldn't help me. Anyways, Thanks.

    LILO woes

Not that I'm aware of... this used to be my dad's computer, and he did the whole linix dual-boot thing... I just left it on here just in case I ever wanted to try it out. He probably didn't make a boot disk. I've searched everywhere and can't find it.

    LILO woes

I am (was) running Win98 on one partition, and SuSE Linux on another. For some insane reason, I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my Windows to XP, and put it on the same partition as 98, so I would be able to access all of my Windows programs through XP. I use LILO to boot between...

[Solved] I want to go back to 98

I didn't know XP had to be on its own partition. I wanted to be able to access the same files as I could on Win98. But right now I'm just trying to GET RID OF XP, and get my dual boot working again.

[Solved] I want to go back to 98

I know that much. Win98 was on the first partition, and it still is. I just installed XP on the same partition. Linux is on the other partition, and I use Linux to dual boot with LILO. I just want to know if I can clean the first partition while leaving the other (linux)alone.

[Solved] I want to go back to 98

Actually, there is a hardware problem. My sound is integrated with my motherboard or something like that, and I have problems with it even in 98, but on XP it isn't even recognized. I even reinstalled the drivers. But that's not the point of this reply. I'm going to back up everything and run...
