Solved MBAMservice.exe using a 100% of my CPU

I see. Can you recommend a good anti-malware program then? Or can I get buy with just Avira installed?

Solved MBAMservice.exe using a 100% of my CPU

I thought Malwarebytes was strictly an anti-malware application, has that changed? Nothing really, other than VLC media player, which wasn't running in the background when my CPU was maxed out.

Solved MBAMservice.exe using a 100% of my CPU

Hold on, the problem just resurfaced with chrome open. I just disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome. Could that be the issue? I'm pretty sure though that I was still having this issue even when Chrome was closed.

Solved MBAMservice.exe using a 100% of my CPU

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro on an HP p6500z desktop with an AMD Sempron 140 processor (2.70 GHz) with 3.0 GB of RAM, so I'm 100% positive I'm virus free. I also have the antivirus program Avira installed alongside Malwarebytes. The problem I'm having now is that the process...

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

I just checked the device manager, it doesn't look like it's missing any drivers. I'm now going to try to update Windows and install all critical updates. I'll leave this thread open for a little longer, in case I run into any issues. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

Just in case if I ever create a bootable DVD with Linux on it. I was just checking whether it was still there. I was told in another forum that DBAN does not touch the BIOS, only the hard drive. I just wanted to be sure. It doesn't look like it gives me the option to boot from a USB thumb stick...

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

I think I might have figured it out. This is not my computer, it belongs to a friend, and I've never dealt with an HP desktop before. Instead of pressing repeatedly F2 I pressed ESC instead, which then gave me a choice to select the boot device. Does the boot menu on an HP desktop look something...

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

No, if I restart the computer when booted into Windows, and I don't press anything, the computer will automatically boot into Windows without giving me a choice of which keys that I can press to enter the BIOS. If I restart and press F2 repeatedly it will show the "Windows Boot Manager" and give...

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

Also, I used an application called DBAN to wipe the computer of viruses after making sure to save all my music files, pictures, and documents onto a USB thumb drive, before I reinstalled Windows 7. The problem is that now when I press F2 repeatedly when I first turn on the computer I can't...

Solved Drivers needed to do a clean install of Win7 on HP desktop

I tried the ebay disk. Unfortunately the computer was too far gone, that I had to use the OEM Windows 7 Pro disk that I also ordered. There were no issues with the installation. The only thing I would like to know now is how do I find out if I need to install any drivers (if any) before...

Solved Can a virus infect an OEM Windows 7 reinstallation disk?

Even if I pop in the disk while I'm logged in to Windows and then decide to restart? Why, though? Could it be because the Windows install disk is a DVD+R instead of a DVD+RW? What if I got infected with one of those Cryptolocker viruses? Could hackers then be able to encrypt the Windows install...

Solved Can a virus infect an OEM Windows 7 reinstallation disk?

Suppose I got a nasty virus and decided to do a clean install of Windows 7, could the virus attach itself to the installation files in the disk when attempting to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch?

Solved Can a USB stick get infected just by connecting it to a PC?

Thank you for answering all of my questions. I consider this thread solved.
