I am running Windows 7 Home Premium having been obliged to upgrade from XP. I am now used to W7 and like it. A few months ago I was notified that I am able to upgrade to Windows 10 at no charge. I have decided to wait for a while any possible 'bugs' to be dealt with. Besides being repeatedly urged to 'upgrade' to W10 I have noticed that no W7 updates have been installed since the 25th of July but when I select the those updates available since then, on popping the 'radio' button instead of updates I am again urged to update to W10.
Then do Start > All programs > Windows Updates > Change settings, then in the drop-down select 'check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them'
Now you can decide to install each Update or not. To stop unwanted updates appearing all the time in the Windows Update window click on the blue 'x updates are available' then in the new window right-click an update and click 'hide'. I have hidden KB3035583 and KB2952664 but you may get different ones so always check any updates you're unsure about by highlighting them and clicking on 'more information' at lower right.
Even after doing all the above when updates are downloading/installing it may still show 'Downloading Windows 10' but that's not so, it is only doing the updates you selected.
Thanks to the prompt and accurate advice from 'managed' the problem is now solved.
