So I was attempting to change which graphics card my computer (hp pavilion elite) was using. I changed it from my nvidia 610 to the integrated graphics card to see what would happen. I changed it from my bios, which was simple enough. The issue is when I changed it over I got black screened. It starts up good and everything just the monitor never comes on. Could someone pleeaaase help me? I thought about doing it blindly and hoping it works but not confident enough to blindly mess with the bios.Thank you in advance.
If you changed it to the integrated graphics then you also need to physically move the monitor cable from the Geforce card to the integrated graphics port as well.
Not slots, ports. And no you cannot plug a DVI cable into a VGA port. Get a VGA cable and plug that into the monitor and PC.
Or open up the computer and find the Clear CMOS jumper and move it to the clear location, then move it back, and hopefully that will set the display adapter setting back to the default which is generally Auto, or PCI-Express if present.
Also, which exact HP Pavilion Elite you have. There should be a model number on one of the sides.
Why did you change that setting in the first place?
Oh ok, I see. Sorry for being so dumbfounded on this. I'll have to get a vga cord and give it a try tomorrow then. My pc is a hp pavilion m9040n. Well, I originally was trying to change my graphics card from integrated to high performance using the nvidia control panel but the option was never there. So then I booted into the bios to change it to the nvidia driver, which it was already on for some reason. Was curious how the others would run, so I tried them out.
Worse, the integrated graphics is an Intel GMA 3100(G33) designed for basic use, it's counterpart the X3150 has a Passmark score of 11. The Geforce GT 610 has a Passmark of 358. To put those in perspective, the top card right now is the Geforce GTX 980 TI, it has a score of 11,558.
You could probably borrow a VGA cable from someone.
Hmm well thats interesting, might be time to upgrade then . I'll defiantly check those links out though. Anyway thanks for all your help! It's been very informative.
Alright, so I found a vga cord in my parents office. So I plugged it in both ports and still nothing is happening. It says no input signal. Am I missing something or should I just resort to your other method?
Turn off the computer and plug the monitor into the motherboard's VGA port, then turn the computer on.
Also make sure to switch the monitor from DVI to VGA, some switch automatically some don't. Use the buttons on the monitor to switch the input. Sometimes if you turn it off then back on it will switch to the detected input. That also means you must disconnect the DVI cable from the computer.
And if that fails, clear the CMOS as per the instructions above.
And if that fails, remove the video card from the computer.
Also if you do wish to upgrade, you should be looking at a complete system replacement.
I disconnected the dvi and put the vga in all while the pc was off. Turned the pc on and still no display. And yes, my monitor is automatic. Guess I'll try that cmos thing though. The two links you provided lead to the same place.
