I experience in philosophy and religion and science web forums atheists who are impossible to talk with on God existing or not.
As I just posted a new thread on local area connection reporting packets sent but not received (the trouble has been fixed -- God knows how -- it seems to have healed by itself, see this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/9065715-post1.html).
As I have already since one week ago decided to no longer try to talk with internet atheists, because -- forgive me, atheists here, it is impossible to talk with them on God existing or not.
But I said to myself perhaps the atheists in a computer forum might be different, so I decided to start this thread.
Dear atheists here, what do you say about my impression, and please I am not into any intention whatsoever to bring you to God, I just want to see whether I can establish linkage with atheists on the basis of thinking on facts and logic on the issue God exists or not.
And it has always been impossible at all to talk civilly and viably with atheists, that is my impression; but let us all observe what happens now with my attempt with this thread, in a computer forum.

Although this topic has been presented often enough over the last 13 years, let's have a go again, eh? My first question would be: Why do you think it's impossible to talk civilly and viably with atheists? What have they done to you?

more agnostic here, but what has always bugged me about the die-hards on either side (atheist or relgious) is the absolute conviction that they are both correct. That has always made me laugh.
We, as human beings, simply cannot know what happens after we die until after we die. It's sorta inherent in the system.
First thought is that if you consider it to be impossible it will be. I've had many great discussions with atheists/christians on and off the internet.
Ditto here. I've found that the more open a person's mind is to change the easier they are to speak to. My sis will not tolerate the fact that the Earth is not 6k years old. Simply will not entertain any other theory, dinosaurs existed along mankind or were possibly planted by God, but they sure as hell didn't exist 150 billion years ago as there was nothing 6k1 years ago.
In my experience it's been more of a willing to listen scenario as opposed to willing to change. I have no intention of changing my viewpoint, but I'm very interested in how others arrived at theirs. But I wouldn't expect them to change their viewpoint based on our discussion.
Oh, I could totally change my viewpoint. It would require something drastic, like Jesus showing up to buy me a burger or something, but yeah, I can change.
It's not difficult - there is no god, never has been, never will be. On the other hand neither I nor you can prove the other wrong. Plain old common sense says atheist are correct. So not sure what there is to discuss but I'm willing as long as no proselytizing. One you believe and the other you accept as true. I think massive doses of LSD would be in order at beginning.

I'm more of an agnostic myself, but I'm sure you can get all the arguments you need from atheists by viewing the many videos from the late Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins on YouTube.
My pop is atheistic. Again, my issue is morethat I'm surprised that neither he or my sis will even entertain the possibility they are incorrect. And yeah, when we get together I usually have to ban all god talk within the first 12 seconds or so.

Nope, you just picked up on few bad example of trolls (if what you suggesting is even true). As atheist I find this tactic laughable. You come with preposition - not possible to talk about god with atheists - w/o any proof or examples, that is possible to verify.
Sure you can hit a trolls or just crazy people, but not everyone is like that (regardless of beliefs).
And as for god - that fairytale is getting a bit laughable. There is over 10 000 religions on Earth. Witch god is the "real" god?
Also - if god have so high intelectual capacity, that it created the whole universe we, as all of peoples that ever lived, are struggling to understand only a absolute tiny bit of - then god intelectual capacity is simply incomparable to man. It is like you compare intelectual capacity of Stephen Hawking and bellow average ant.
And my pint is - since Earth is a just speck of dust, invisible outside our tiny Solar system - why god should talk/care about the last judgment of any man/woman on Earth? Makes no sense. As people won't try to reason or comunicate with ants, but rather to kill them, when they get into our houses, same must apply with god. If god exist, it make no difference, because the whole notion of everyone being judged after death by this supreme being is just laughable.
earth from voyager
Where is the god now?
...
Also current religious versions of the fairytales described in bible get "a little out" of their original teachings:
So if god exist, then he must run away to farrest reach of the universe to not see, what these "unique" humans do with his "teachings"... Speaking about the 10 commandments - most is about copyright. Since when almighty god need to worry about what other gods or what pictures man drawn? Makes no sense...
Sure, I agree on that one. Belief w/o proof is called religion.
However people are controlled easily thru the ages because of that, so I deeply resent it. I mean - it is not only belief in some form of deity (most people do believe in deity - just did not call it god: ), but it is also belief in the need to unconditionaly obey so called "autorities" ( ), the belief they "they won't just flat out lie to us" and the belief that we cannot change the system (or - even worser - that the system as it is is best that it could be).

The Four Horsemen have always demonstrated the opposite in debates with "believers". On the other hand, the "believers" (Rabi Shmuley, Dinesh D'Souza...) have been quite arrogant and condescending toward atheists. Scientists are always open to criticism or challenge. Can you say the same about most "believers" and their convictions?
Scientists have a lot more to discover and they certainly admit they don't have all the answers and probably never will. People of Faith claim THEY know. And you can't argue with Faith!
I'm at work, don't do YT there. Besides, if it requires a video to get the point across, that sorta defeats the entire purpose of debate, trodas.
antipathy doesn't make a proof; that's just an emotion.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
