I have a question about harddrives.
I'm currently using 2x Kingston 240GB Solid State Drives 2.5inch V300 Sata 3's
and 1 the same but 960gb..
What I'm trying to find out is am I able to connect a normal hard drive into my computer or does it have to be a similar ssd so it doesn't interfere with those ones?
Example: I'm looking to get a Seagate 3TB 3.5inch 7200RPM 64mb cache SATA3 hard drive
You can pretty much use anything you want. The real determining factor will be if you have an available SATA data port, an available power plug, and a physical space to place the drive. Having an SSD and a mechanical drive is a very usual setup these days.
Thanks,
I know I have space inside to put it as when I had it built I had a bigger case to allow space for upgrades in the future.
All I have to do now is find out if I have those data ports and power plugs..
If I dont have either of them available; is it possible to add new ones or?
Yes, however it can get more involved. Most motherboards have a minimum of 4 sata ports and many have 6 or more. Post the exact mb you have installed. If you do not know the mfg, open the case and look; it will be silkscreened on the board. While the case is open, you can also ascertain the number of ports.
The pw connector can be split from an existing one using something like this; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200468
