Audio Hijack and Windows Update not Finding/Downloading Upds
everything found is actually harmless
The online scanner is a one off. You need to install an antivirus for real time protection
I suppose theoretically a guest wireless account could log in & steal passwords, but not easily
What problems are you still having now?
1. Are any of the scan harmless files needed? If not any problem deleting them?
2. Wireless router came with preset password. Is there a way to change password?
3. Still experience speaker/system sounds "tapping in" for lack of better description particularly on certain social media like twitter (the sounds stop when switch to your site and some others however). This pattern has continued for several months. It sounds nutty but the pattern of sounds is without exception on these sites and I try to block unsafe sites. Any insight on this? It feels like spying.
4. Will duct or electric tape over camera prevent unauthorized use?
5. Recommendations for real protection that while running do not make computer impossibly slow?
6. Should the logs in thread be deleted for security reasons?
Thanks!
Answers
1. no the files aren't needed and no problems with them being deleted.
2. What make and model router do you have? All routers will have a control panel where you can change default password
3. What sites do you get the audio problems on? if it is mainly Twitter, Facebook and other simian sites, Then what browser do you use to access those sites. Do you get the "problem" with ALL browsers or only when using Chrome or whichever is currently set as your default browser?
I have a feeling this is Skype causing the problem. I think Skype is automatically turning on your webcam & Microphone on social network sites . There is a setting inside Skype that shares camera & mike with everybody, or only on contact list or none. I seem to remember something on Skype that automatically links/ syncs your Facebook & twitter " friends"
If you don't use Skype all the time, then turn it off until you do want to use it. In fact, to see if it is the cause, turn Skype off. There should be in icon in taskbar showing Skype. Right click that & select exit or Quit Skype. Then if the problems stop, you have found the culprit. Do the same for any other instant messenger programs you have or use. It might also be your E-fax messenger or go to meeting ( E-fax is less likely, but GTM could be the culprit if that is running in background with audio & camera set to be switched on
4. Yes duct tape over an inbuilt webcam on a laptop will stop it being used, however if a remote "hacker" can activate webcam, he can also activate audio/ microphone
5. Real time protection with minimal slowdowns or performance hits. My choice would be for a free AV to use Microsoft Security Essentials or for a paid one ESET antivirus or Security suite
6. No need to delete logs, There is nothing in them that can help anybody
1. Skye - Ended all skype processes in Task Manager, tapping noises continued in both browsers, Chrome/IE. No skype in taskbar.
2. The tapping sounds begin after bootup before connecting to wireless set for manual connection. A neighbor's 3bar connection is called "All your WiFi Belong to Us."
3. Belkin Dashboard shows separate 2.0 and 5.0 media connection. Should both show on computer's Manage Wireless connections list ?
4. dashboard does not allow for password change after logging in. Model: F9K1123V1
5. How do I check MAC addresses of my devices that connect to network?
6. Is is recommended to remove the unsecured connections from internet cafes, starbucks etc?
7. Received MS update error 80070308. Windows can't update files and services while the system is using them, only Update running at the time. Continued rebooting and downloading. Now says no new updates though only 3of6 were successful. Could the others have been outdated, some were dated 2013-14?
The updates that didn't install and are no longer available would have been superseded by newer versions
I am wondering if the noise is a microphone feedback
Have you tried muting /disabling mike from sound settings
That has to be a hardware problem /fault. If speakers are off & you hear noise there must an internal fault. something inside the laptop must be vibrating.
I honestly don't think we can help any more with this. It is gong to need somebody with hands on physical access to track down the fault. That is going to need an experienced repair person to open the case and examine everything
The time that will take in troubleshooting it & finding/fixing he fault will likely cost as much as or even more than buying a new laptop
Daily I receive Network interruptions saying "a network change has been detected." What would cause them. I have the one network only? Is there a way to determine if others are logging on wifi account?
What is alerting you to the network changes? Is it an antivirus or a remote server? You appear to have a dynamic IP address that frequently changes. If this is a remote server informing you, It just means that the IP address you are logging into the server with has changed. That happens to me, when I stay logged on to my server / facebook /other website for too long & my IP changes. I get an alert and a disconnect & have to reconnect
it's not antivirus so must be a remote server. The screen briefly flashes the network change msg and reconnects.
If someone tried to login with the password to my connection, how would I know.
I don't know
This is now getting a bit beyond what can be advised or helped on a forum. I think you need to call in an IT consultant to investigate the network and your problems. This is going to need hands on to the computer & network to track it all down.
doesn't give a lot of help
just says caused by ntoskrnl.exe which can mean anything
As I previously said. You really need to call in a qualified tech to investigate all your problems or consider a complete format & reinstall of windows & all software
