White Smoke after PC Upgrade

I upgraded my build to this:
CORE i5-6600 Skylake
MSI B150M MORTAR
2x Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM
KINGSTON HYPERX SAVAGE 240GB SATA3 SSD (Windows 10 here)
4x SATA HDD - MAINTAINED FROM PREVIOUS!
ATI Radeon™ HD 5770 - MAINTAINED FROM PREVIOUS!
Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 500W - MAINTAINED FROM PREVIOUS!
What happened after power on: White smoke -> When enter Windows 10, only the SSD was able to be read.

What should I do?

Personally I don't like the look of that PSU, however you are not using a particularly power hungry GPU either.

I doubt it, since checking https://us.msi.com/power-supply-calculator, the total power is 269 Watts while the PSU is 500W. Still a likely case to be too much?
http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/extreme/extreme-power-plus-500w/

The PSU has an efficiency rating of >70% (which isn't that great to start with, I would expect >80%), but lets take worst case scenario and assume it is running at 70% efficiency, this would equate to an approximate power output capability of 350w (70% of 500). Now when you consider that optimally you really don't want your system drawing more than 70% of your PSUs capacity (to prolong life, promote stability etc), then you really don't want to be drawing more than 245w from that PSU (again, this is worst case scenario). Personally, if I am running a dedicated card I wouldn't go for anything less than a 550w (absolute minimum) or normally 600w, good quality PSU. Good quality will have a >80% efficiency (or higher) and a 10 year manufacturers warranty.

Warranty is a good indicator of quality, I wouldn't go for anything with less that 5 years, yours appears to have a 2 year warranty which indicates to me that even the manufacturer doesn't have confidence in its longevity.

Did not work at all, as soon as i plugged it in it started smoking.
That? If so, what should be done to rectify? There's also the part I find strange that all SATA HDDs were unable to be read after the upgrade, but the SSD is.

Then there's this:
Other Thoughts: Still in use after 5 years.
and mine is less than 3 years.

About this:
Other Thoughts: Read Reviews Before You Buy
That PSU was replaced by the shop I sent my former build to, where that build had the PSU busted, so they replaced with the current Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus - 500W Power Supply. I had no reason to doubt then, since computer repair shop and all.

Unfortunately, I don't have a somewhere else to test them out. Perhaps this images of the case interior might help with the analysis better:

Just saying:
If I saw smoke coming from the top of my tower I would freak
Then I would be disassembling it piece by piece and inspecting the mobo ....etc with a magnifying glass for burns
"Especially with expensive new parts"
I freaked when I saw smoke, then immediately switched off the main switch socket, then carefully removed the case to find the source. Took pictures some time after:

I could, but, said PC shop was the one who suggested that PSU, stressed test even, and there are no better shops within the vicinity I reside at.

What do you think about this:
  • Cast aside the HDDs, get a new 2TB hard disk (is HDD SATA okay? I'm worried about compatibility) and use it with the current motherboard
    • Yes I have thought of cloud storage a lot and will be more than happy to use that, what's stopping me are:
      • the possibility of one day the cloud will disappear, what of the data?
      • I still have backup HDDs, so less of a reason to use/switch
    • What are your comment on my points?
  • Get a new better PSU, I was recommended this the time of build, what do you think?:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151093

No, they were not RAID before, and no they did not show up under the drives section.

I changed my power supply, now everything is fine EXCEPT for:

- 1/4 of my HDD unable to be read completely, the ST3320613AS ATA HDD; the rest, including my SSD works fine.

What I found out:

- One of my power cables was lightly burnt (changed to a new one)
- My (previous) PSU was slightly damaged
I also have this problem:
