Hi, I'm currently running 32 bit Windows 7 and I am wondering if there is an option in the free Windows 10 update to install 64 bit instead of 32 bit. I'm asking this as I want to upgrade my ram and it can only use the extra ram with 64 bit
If your computer is currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, it'll upgrade to Windows 10 Home 32-bit for free.
If your computer is currently running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, it'll upgrade to Windows 10 Pro 32-bit for free.
You didn't describe your computer, so we don't know if it supports more than 4 GB of RAM.
We also don't know if all of its primary devices support and will work with Windows 10.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's currently running 32 bit win 7 professional. I'm just wondering if somehow I can update it to a 64 bit version of Windows 10 through the free update. It currently has 4gb and I want to upgrade to 8gb. I am aware it is capable of 64 bit
I'm not aware of any free upgrade process that will allow your computer to upgrade from Windows 7 32-bit to Windows 10 64-bit.
If there is, someone else here can advise you.
Just because your computer supports a 64-bit operating system and supports more than 4 GB of RAM, that doesn't mean it's a good candidate for an upgrade to Windows 10 32-bit/64-bit.
Have you confirmed that drivers for that operating system exist for all of its primary devices?
There is no 'upgrade' path but you definitely can install the 64-bit version. It'll be a clean install and you'll need to reinstall/restore all your software, settings, and data.
You will need to go to the Windows 10 upgrade site and download the media creator and get the 64-bit version, create the USB installation and boot from it to do a clean install. You can use your Windows 7 key for the Windows 10 activation.
