Once you install the windows version from the DVD, it will run the windows patches for you and locate sp1 if it's not already slipstreamed into the installation media.
If you have an unopened/unused copy of the original version of Windows 7 64-bit, you should download and save and then burn the 64-bit version of the Service Pack 1 upgrade (windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe) to a disc.
Once the original version is installed and the computer restarted, install the SP1 upgrade next from the burned disc.
Windows Update will not work and allow you to install the 200+ important/recommended updates until Windows 7 has been upgraded to SP1.
Make sure you do step 3 as shown before anything else. Once the convenience update has installed run normal Windows Update and reboot and run it again until no more updates are available.
I downloaded and saved those 2 update files and made note of the 4 steps.
I read somewhere else that IE11 and its cumulative security update also need to be installed before launching Windows Update.
I plan to do a test clean install of Windows 7 SP1 in my spare desktop after the August 9th "Patch Tuesday".
Does installing the KB3125574 package include them?
