I have been using WXP in my Laptop Dell D520. I am facing a problem with printer that system generates an error (image given below) and no any printer is shown on printer and fax page. I tried to add printer but system doesnt allow. Kindly help me out how to resolve this issue.
1. Open a command prompt by clicking on the Start button, and then type cmd.exe and hit the Enter key in the Run box.
2. Type net stop spooler in the command prompt and hit the Enter key. If it gives you an error about it not running, don't worry.
3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following folder: c:\windows\system32\spool\printers.
4. If there are any files in that folder, delete them.
5. Go back to the command prompt window, type in net start spooler, and then hit the Enter key. Look for a message saying it was successful.
6. Try printing a job.
Okay, I need to know the make & model of the printer you're trying to use. Just to test out a theory, follow Options 1 & 5 from the post I wrote above, which should walk you through the process of starting the printer spooler. At Option 5, do you get a message about the Printer Spooler service starting successfully? After that, try printing. I'm guessing it'll fail again, so just bear with me to get the processes mapped out, and let me know if this is the case.
Thanks for your answer. In my last post, you can find screen shot of cmd.exe in which I tried to start the print spool by command directed by you but answer was that the print spooler service is not started. Today I am out of office, so can not tell you the model # of printer. But "Foxit Reader Pdf Printer" is also not working to convert any file into Pdf.

Yes, the command you posted in the screenshot was for stopping the spooler, not starting it. That's why I suggested opening cmd.exe and then entering net start spooler. This command attempts to start it, and I wanted to know what would happen from there.
But "Foxit Reader Pdf Printer" is also not working to convert any file into Pdf.
There could be a corruption in the spoolsv.exe file. Do you have the XP DVD handy? If so, I could walk you through replacing the file. In addition, what you do use for an anti-virus package, when was the last time you ran a full scan, and what (if anything) did it reveal?
Yes, that's entirely possible. I would advise doing this in Safe Mode, since there's every chance the file copy won't work in Normal Mode. Just make careful note of the location of the file (it should be in C:\Windows\System32), and then copy it to the same location on the defective PC. You might want to delete the errant file first, though, just to be sure.
I am sorry i could not understand the right file to be copied. If i open the spooler, there are 4 folders which screen shot is given below. Kindly guide me about the right file
But in my case, when I check the folder "C:\WINDOWS\System32\Spool\Printers" there is no any file there. I restart the print spool, it restarts well but after some time above quoted error again appears.
I have resolved the problem. For a test, I disabled the Foxit Reader and tried to start the spooler, it started correctly without any error which normally appeared before. Then did a print of doc and found ok. It mean the problem was in Foxit reader pdf printer. I uninstalled the Foxit reader and re-installed and now all is ok. Thanks a lot for your kind sport and give me time.
One thing I have noticed that even Foxit reader 8.0.2.805 installed or uninstalled, if I right click on any document and go to "Open With", I found the option of Foxit reader 6.0 also there. Its strange for me that if latest foxit reader has been installed then why the older one persist. After uninstall of Foxit reader 8.0.2.805, I again recheck the installed programs but Foxit reader 6.0 could not find anywhere. But with right click and "open with" of any document, I found the option of Foxit reader 6.0 there. Kindly guide how to resolve the problem.
I have merged both topics together and unmarked as solved. Please stay with this topic until your problem is completely solved, do not start new topics for the same problem
