pcdrcui.exe - entry point not found

I keep getting a pop-up window, which always pops up twice and after the second time of closing the pop-up it doesn't come back. Until I shut down or restart my laptop.

pcdrcui.exe - entry point not found
The procedure entry point ??0ManagedThread@pcd@@QEAA@V?$function@$$A6AHAEAVManagedThread@pcd@@@Z@std@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\ProgramFiles\Dell\SupportAssist\Asapi.dll

It seems like it started after I went to the Dell website and attempted to scan for updates for my laptop. I can't even remember what downloaded and/or installed, if anything. This happened awhile ago. I've been trying to figure out why my laptop keeps dropping my internet connection (also a new problem). If I disconnect from my network and re-connect I get back on. Some days it happens incessantly, some days not at all. My laptop also seems like it has slowed down. For the internet connection problem I called my ISP and spent an hour or so pinging, trouble-shooting, resetting the router modem. They did tell me that they can see something that represents dropped internet connections and they saw an extremely high number of them.

So, after searching the internet for info, I looked in my directories and Add/Remove Programs for PC Doctor and thought I had it removed. Nope. I tried Revo Uninstaller Pro and seemed like it showed up in there, so I (thought) I uninstalled it. Apparently not. I updated and ran my Malwarebytes, Avast, Ad-aware, Spybot-S&D, ran disk clean-up, disk check. No issues or viruses were detected.

Of note, it seems as though I am also getting an increasing amount of Spam (Viagra pills, hot mommy, as well as the usual for loans, etc.). I don't know if all of this is related or not. At this point I don't know what is related, if anything. I've run all the programs I know of.

Any help is appreciated,
Robyne

Hi RTraw,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Run the Farbar Scan Tool
  • Download FRST64 and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRST64 will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Scan button.
    • When finished scanning, 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
    • Please post them in your next reply.
If you lose track of them, they will be saved in the same location as FRST64.exe
Feel free to use separate replies if it's more convenient.

Thank you, here they are and FWIW, when I launched the app and clicked YES for the disclaimer I got this pop-up message:

Application Error
Exception EAccessViolation in module ERUNT.exe at 00003A38, Access violation at address 00403A38 in module 'ERUNT.exe'. Read of address 0076005D

OK (button)

RTraw,
There are a lot of junkware, adware, unnecessary, and not so desirable programs and settings on there.
Later we can review any missing functionality and recommend different programs.
------------------------------------------------
Remove Installed Programs
Use Start > Settings > System > Apps and Features >
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall, and give permission to Continue:

Ad-Aware Antivirus
ffdshow
Fitbit Connect
FrostWire 6.2.2
Spybot - Search & Destroy

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT (RESTART) Your Machine
--------------------------------------------------------
Run A Fix With FRST
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both the program FRST64.exe and Fixlist.txt be in the same location, or the fix will not work.
(Both on the Desktop is OK, or both in the same folder elsewhere)

Run FRST64 and press the FIX button just once, and wait. DO NOT PRESS THE SCAN BUTTON.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
The tool may start automatically and complete its work after the system restart. Let the tool complete its run.
When finished, FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents in your reply.

Hi askey127,

I did what you suggested. Again when I launched the app and clicked YES for the disclaimer I got this pop-up message:

Application Error
Exception EAccessViolation in module ERUNT.exe at 00003A62, Access violation at address 00403A62 in module 'ERUNT.exe'. Read of address 0069005C

OK (button)

I clicked OK and then clicked on the Fix button. It ran and finished butit did not need to restart. I attached the fixlog.txt here and in the process of typing this that "pcdrcui.exe - entry point not found" box popped up again (twice). After I post this reply I will restart my computer. If anything else happens I will let you know.

Rob,
It's possible the Internet issue could be hardware related.
Hopefully we can find out.
Meanwhile let's see where PC Doctor is hiding, and what other unwanted items are on there.
---------------------------------------------
Run A Scan With SystemLook
Please download SystemLook from the download mirror and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1 (64-bit)
  • Double-click SystemLook_x64.exe to run it. OK the User Account Control.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
    Code:
    :filefind
    *pc doctor*
    *doctor*
    :folderfind
    *doctor*
    :regfind
    doctor
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
Because of the Registry searches, the scan may take 15 minutes or a bit more to run on a large machine. Please be patient.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The results log can also be found on your Desktop, entitled SystemLook.txt

-----------------------------------------------------------
Run a New Scan With the Farbar Scan Tool
  • Double click FRST64.exe on your desktop to launch it.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • When finished scanning, a new version of the log FRST.txt will be saved on your Desktop and opened in Notepad.
  • Please post the contents in your next reply.

Okay, will do. I thought I should tell you that even though we removed Spybot Search & Destroy when I start up my computer now I get a pop-up box that asks if I want to allow "Post-windows 10 Upgrade re-installer for Spybot-Search & Destroy" to make changes to my PC" Yes or No. So apparently I have not completely Uninstalled that program?

I'll be back with the results of my next step.

Here are the results:
and again, after I hit Yes and before I pressed the Scan button I got this pop-up message twice:
Application Error
Exception EAccessViolation in module ERUNT.exe at 00003A62, Access violation at address 00403A62 in module 'ERUNT.exe'. Read of address 0069005C

OK (button)

Thanks,
Robyne

dino7,
That ERUNT error message refers to a program's failed effort to run a Registry backup.
I am not going to do anything about it right now. (It may happen again)

So far...(y) No pop-up messages :) I haven't had a chance to be on my computer much today but so far so good. So, what do you recommend I use to manage Ad-ware, malware, orphan files, etc.?
And of the programs that I removed, can I slowly re-install them? I don't even think I need ffdshow or Frostwire.

Thank you so much,
Robyne

RTraw,
Using Frostwire can actually cause BIG problems with your machine.
-----------------------------------------------
It's really important, if you value your PC at all, to stay away from P2P file sharing programs, like µTorrent, Bearshare, Bittorrent, BitComet, Azureus, Frostwire, Vuze, Shareaza, Bitlord.
There are NO Safe ones.
Criminals have "planted" thousands of infections in the shared torrent files.
Virtually all of these recent infections can compromise your Security, and some can turn your machine into a useless "doorstop".
-----------------------------------------------
In my opinion, you should not re-install any of these.
They are not necessary, and a couple of them will subject you to more adware.
Ad-Aware Antivirus
ffdshow
Fitbit Connect
FrostWire 6.2.2
Spybot - Search & Destroy

-----------------------------------------------
You CAN download AdwCleaner, save it to your desktop, and run it once in a while to clean out adware
AdwCleaner Download and Run

Download AdwCleaner and save it to your desktop or somewhere you can find it.
Close your browser and double click the AdwCleaner icon on your desktop or downloads folder.
  • Click on the Scan button, accept any prompts that appear, and allow it to run.
It may take several minutes to complete.
  • When it is done, the Scan button will be dimmed down, and it will wait for you to make any exceptions to its suggested removals. Don't make any exceptions or uncheck anything
  • Click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear, and allow the system to Reboot.
  • You will then be presented with the report.
  • If you lose track of the log, it is saved in this folder C:\AdwCleaner\
The filename will be adwcleaner[xx].txt, where [xx] will be S1, or S2, etc. whichever filename is newest.
You can read the report to see what was removed.

If you think we are done , you can click Mark Complete at the top.
Good Luck,
askey127
