I just got this laptop (Windows 10 Toshiba) summer of 2015. It has been working fine all this time. The only issue I had was my battery because apparently you can't charge an iPad on your computer(which doesn't make sense since it has a USB port). But I got around that. This, I can't get around. My laptop has always had low speakers, so I started using my speakers when I got them for my birthday this summer. Now, yesterday or the day before, i'm not getting any sound from my speakers or headphones. I have had to keep the Realtek audio box up for me to click on headphones when it asks what is being connected to my computer. Now it does nothing. I know I did something to mess it up but I don't know what I did. You can't rely on 'troubleshooting' anything because that has never done anything in my 18 years of using computers. I always seem to have a phone for around 2 years then it starts freezing or the battery drains fast/won't charge correctly. Do I need to take my laptop to someone? Get a new one? Or can I just do something like reset the whole thing. I did that when I got a virus and it got rid of it. I've checked all my drivers, they're up to date. ANY HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
Do the laptop's speakers work when nothing is plugged in?
Most headphone jacks are actually a switch inside which disconnects the internal speakers and I suspect your jack is either dirty or broken.

I took this to mean you had both a set of plug-in speakers and headphones. What I was asking is if you unplug everything from the jack, do the laptop's built in speakers still work?
What is the full model number of the laptop? (i.e. L855-S5405 and its on the sticker with the serial number)
If my internal speakers were working I wouldn't have cared as much to ask about it. I can't get sound from my laptop no matter what I try.
C55t-B5230 it's a toshiba Windows 8.1 but it's updated to Windows 10.
Here is your support page: http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200008281 and you ought to add it to your bookmarks or favorites so you have it in the future!
Next, if you go to Sound in the control panel, on the Playback tab, if you highlight the Speakers and click Configure, it ought to be set for Stereo and the Test button should make little waves come out of the speaker icons. If it does, I'll go back to the thought that the speaker jack may be physically damaged and suggest you inspect it carefully with a flashlight (with the laptop shutdown and off!) Its not all that common; but, a broken or even dirty jack will disconnect all of the speakers and you won't hear a thing even though Windows acts like its working fine.
If you think the jack is OK, the support link has Realtek audio drivers from August 24th, 2016 which you ought to download, save, and then install.
The laptop did get knocked off my bed about a week ago but I didn't think much of it because everything else was working. I didn't the sound test and waves did show but no sound. But I don't know where the speaker thing is inside and I don't trust myself to take it apart and I can't afford to get a laptop fixed.
The jack is the hole you plug the speakers or headset into and it shows on the outside. If you are careful, you can also use a toothpick to see if it seems real loose. Either way, its usually obvious that the jack is busted in which case nothing we do with software will fix it.
I don't think anything is loose in the headphone jack. There's something wrong with the sound in general. Neither the headphones, internal speakers or plugged in speakers are working.
Update: I went to test the sounds again because my mom wanted to use my laptop to watch Netflix. I tested ten sound on the speakers and they didn't work but when I tested Realtek there was sound. But when I tried to use Realtek on YouTube and Netflix there was no sound.
rafaandrande,
You need to start your own question rather than add it to the end of an existing one. Its RealTek, by the way, and we need the make and model of your PC.
I downloaded this, my computer retarted then I checked my speakers again. They didn't work but I decided to go into my sound department and make Realtek my default sound and voila..I now have sound playing from YouTube/Netflix, etc. Thanks for the help!
