I may not be in the correct box here but here goes. A few years ago I used to make phone calls on my computer without any hassles. Now I've tried to resurrect the practice and I feel inundated with a vast number of apps etc. Can anyone offer any simple suggestion on how to make a land line or mobile call from my computer? By the way I am on windows 10.
Hello! I think i saw somewhere the app where you can call to the cell phone for free but do not remember the name of it... Will research.
I may sound out of the topic however I am concerned about the security of these applications for calls in overall. Any ideas which one is the best to trust?
I know that there are many application and I also tried them. Maybe be someone knows which application provide the good quality call and is more secured?
I don't know of any computer apps that provide free phone calls over the internet. If you find one, I'd be REALLY concerned about security 'cause the only way to provide that service would be to sell ads and may be even content.

GlobFone may be your choice:
It is very easy to use,
There's no need to create a user account or download any apps because it works from right inside the browser to let you call any mobile or landline phone.
There is a major limitation with GlobFone in that you can only call for a duration of just a few minutes before the connection drops. Also, there's a cap on the number of calls that can be made through one IP address within a 24 hour period.
GlobFone also supports free video chat and lets you send text messages.
But as TonyB25 said, maybe this kind of app is not safe.
Thank you for the advice. I have never heard about GlobeFone before. What about the privacy policies of it?
Well, I tried facebook, viber, facetime etc for calls. In my opinion, the quality of call was similar but how it is secure I am not sure. That it is the main issue I think.
I am fine to install an app on my phone and to use it for the calls but I wish that this app will be secured. I know that mobile antivirus can be the solution but does it really help in the end. I know it may look strange that I am so concerned about mobile security but I wish to trust to the app... I came to all of that after reading and watching all these videos about apps and mobile security. The problem is that I am still confused even after watching a lot... Recently I saw this one and was even more surprised that it is even not possible to trust to the official mobile app store... that makes me totally disappointed.
If we speak Skype, as far as I understood the paid version is safer than free version but it is not that convenient as mobile app for me personally.
I am in UK and I use Skype when I "phone" USA , Canada or Australian friends. That costs me about 2p per minute, whereas if I use my BT phone line, it would cost me between 45p and 75 p per minute without me having a monthly international addon. I rarely phone abroad so prefer Skype when I have to
Normally sound quality is fine. It can get a few drop outs occasionally, but a lot depends on the internet connection speed
Thank you for information. Sounds good, the rate is cheap. By the way, do you know is Skype calling abroad safer according the privacy policies than the simple Skype online calls?
I have never known any Telco to charge for receiving calls, EXCEPT for a mobile phone user who is roaming abroad, when some mobile phone companies charge you for receiving calls & texts. That is because effectively receiving roaming calls means your home number forwards the call to a foreign number ( although you still pick it up on the same phone & number) . The charge is for forwarding your call out of area.
Whether it is different users, is immaterial in this case. Both are asking the same question about making calls from a computer and all the answers apply to both and to anybody else with a general query like this.
Normally we don't like answering multiple users in one topic, because of confusion. But there are exceptions and something like this, which is not computer specific or asking for help with a specific computer problem, but is a general info topic is perfectly OK to have several users asking questions and getting replies. If and when any user's questions veer into the realm of specifics to assist that user on a computer we would split the posts. Examples would be " I can't get Skype to work". XXX program won't start. XXX won't connect etc. Those would need specific investigations and direct help to a user.
Yellowlemon's questions are a natural follow on from what program works, to how do I use it and how safe is it.
I know I asked already many questions but maybe someone knows the app except skype and ooVoo with which is possible to do video call with more than 2 users. As I know, Skype and ooVoo do not encrypt the content of the conversation. Maybe there is something better?
Viber and whatsapp are supposed to be fully encrypted. Skype definitely is supposed to be. Viber does have multi user conversations and video calls, but I am not sure how many.
I found helpful information about skype alternatives.
Below the article there is a table which compares security of the applications.
Yeah, finally i found the answer on my question. Thank you guys for your previous replies.
