My computer has been acting strangely lately, on startup it goes to a "checking file system on C: one of your discs need to be checked for consistency", it then goes on checking the files then sometimes it starts after the check and other times it freezes and I have to switch off the power and reboot , when it does the same thing again, it needs to be done several times before it is the computer is usable..
Anther thing it has been doing is that the curser sometimes momentarely freezes as it moves across the screen, at the same time there is a thump sound from the speakers when it does this.
I have done scans as suggested by Frank (flavalee) on other threads for other people with startup problems, another thing happening is Bitdefender AV is being disabled, I then have to do a Bitdefender repair to start it again.
I have also done a system repair using my Win 7 disc, to no avail.

Is Bitdefender loading correctly and running a ok?
Give us a timeline from when you turn on your pc till the time, you start having problems.
How long is it running before any problem occurs?
Did not crash with blue screen, problems with curser freezing almost straight after boot.
Updates not always installing, PC sat for about 2 hours with the latest try, I finished up cancelling and rebooting, I will try manual update..
I ran graphics test for about 3 hours, didn't see anything apart of the test screen, temp. got up to 82 degrees, should there have been a log for that?
I haven't used ozone3d for years and am unsure if a log file is saved.
The temps will raise as it tests the CPU and graphics card, etc.
Let us know how you get on with the offline updates. Read all information first as to how to install them.
There is still an unanswered question.

I have managed to get all updates installed and is now up to date.
The problems with the cursor start about 5 mins. after boot, but it still stops for 90 seconds at the "starting windows" screen on boot.
Yesterday I left the PC for about 3 hours, when I came back to it, power to the moniter had gone off and all the things connected by USB had gone off, it was not in "sleep" mode, but the PC was still running, I had to switch off the power and reboot, it was OK after that.
Tonight when loading a web page the sound went off and came back on after the page had loaded.
Is a free version of Malwarebytes sufficient, or should I use a full version?
You are running out of options here.
You have now bought a new hard drive. Re-installed Win 7 and updated drivers. Tested the temperatures - ram and graphics card.
It is possible that you have an underlying problem with the CPU - motherboard - capacitors, etc.
If I can think of what could be your next best move - I will let you know.
Thanks very much for your help, I will wait to see if you come up with something.
