I'm puzzled about the blank white paper/file-like 'thumbnails' in my Android's My Files application...
When I tap on any of these, my device responds 'No application can perform this action.'
I hope one of you guys will shed light on:
- what those blank white 'thumbnails' are & how they should properly be called( if they have a specific name)
- what they are there for & how to use them
- if I would need an application so that I can use those 'thumbnails',
what that app. is
- are those 'thumbnails' safe to be deleted if they don't serve the user?
What I can surmise from your reply is that those blank white 'thumbnails' represent file extensions & if they don't take up any memory, it's safe to delete them, am I right?
But, if they take up some memory, I save them & then what to do with them (& how)...?... for a lay person.. like me!Do I just have to leave them as they are? I'm still curious what & how they serve!
Would you mind clarifying me also about the yellow file icons in the lower part of the previous screenshot? When I follow them, they also end up in somewhat hard-to-crack extensions! Does an ordinary user like me need to learn about them... or can I just skip them?
Sorry...I might sound lengthy, but if you don't mind, I'd also like to know
about the file thumbnails lettered W & X in the following screenshot -- what are they & are they of any use & importance to a lay person?
Well referring again to your first screenshot, Deja Vu uses 124kb. That's small but if you remove it and it is needed for subtitles then perhaps you'll break something.
The tk.tocl is 0 so that's safe to remove.
The .m only uses 37 bytes and is from Dec. 23rd 2016 so I expect it's okay to remove it.
As far as your 2nd screenshot, those are documents, excel files and a pdf. Before removing anything, you should see if you need it; if not, then remove it. (Actually the pdf is 0 bytes so it is safe to remove).
I've been googling much about a myriad of Android files for the past several weeks & more puzzles were
dug out!
Here are some for which I need your help again:
(1)At about the middle of the following screenshot, an mp4 file has 2 accompanying white blank files(.smi/.en files). How they are of use?? I can't find such 'companion'
files for many of the other mp4s!
Are these companion files essential or deletable?
(2) In the 'viber' folder, hundreds of .temp white blank files -- I can't figure out how they would be of use to me -- plus emoticon files are taking up much memory space. Can I do away with them safely?
(3) 'Lyrics' folder also harbors so many white blank files. When I look at the dates of entry in 'details', what is strange is that all files are dated the same!! And I can't retrieve the lyrics at all(Maybe I don't know how to!); I need to go online every time I play the songs on MusiXmatch to be able to view the lyrics. Then why should I save those white blank lyric files? Please comment!
One possible explanation is that I used a music player named TTpod in the past(I can't remember the exact years!) with which I had to part 'cause antimalware apps said it was an exploit. What's cool with that player was it retained the lyrics for offline playback use. That app. might have left those .lrc/.trc files. What do you think?
