just recently I built my computer by ordering all the parts online from separate sites that were found to be compatible using pcpartpicker, once I finished said computer everything seemed to be in working condition until I started having gaming problems so when I went to find out the problem I discovered that my computer wasn't using all the RAM I had installed, in the MSInfo it said that I had 12 GB installed but underneath that it said 3 gb in use and 1 gb available which is obviously less than it said I had installed I tried everything any other places told me to try. I tried to update bios (using an asrock motherboard. the website said my bios was up to date) I tried changing the boot settings so it was using the max amount of ram I had but it didn't help. and my motherboard doesn't have an onboard graphics card so it isn't storing ram for that. basically I cant use all my RAM and I don't know why.
what version of windows are are you using
it sounds like you have used a 32bit version of windows and NOT the 64bit
a 32bit windows operatign system can only see a max of 4GB and then has to reserve space for internal use by the machine , usually this results in a usable memory figure of
approx 3gb
Do the following in your computer so we have a better picture of its hardware(motherboard, processor, RAM, etc.) and Windows operating system:
Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) file.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.
Your TSGSIU log shows only 4 GB of RAM detected and in use, so something is wrong if you actually have 12 GB installed.
How many RAM modules are installed, and what are their DDR3 speed and capacity?
ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
It has 4 DIMM slots and supports a maximum of 64 GB(16 GB X 4) of DDR3 RAM.
If you click "Download - BIOS Download", you will see a list of BIOS updates.
Version 2.60 was released in June 2016 and addresses RAM compatibility issues.
What BIOS version is your motherboard currently using?
You may need to update the BIOS to resolve the issue.
Patriot 4GB is not on the list of compatible memory. It may work on this motherboard but it does not have to. Possible user acknowledgment of such memory can dispel doubts.
after restarting the computer without the patriot ram card the computer wouldn't turn on so I tried putting the patriot in and taking 1 of the hyperx blu out and it turned on so I think the problem is it cant read the patriot ram card but it can read 1 of the hyperx cards and the other one is broken. therefore I just need a different hyperx blu card to put more memory on. maybe that's the problem?
The problem is that there is no exact information you have about memory.
We generally know that you have 1x4GB Patriot and 2x4GB Hyper X blu (1 pc damaged).
Memory stickers should be labeled with accurate data. Please write down all the markings of these stickers and give them to us.
In general, dual channel memory should be IDENTIFY. Best as they are paired by the manufacturer and bought in the set eg 2x4GB.
Note the information in the motherboard manual for memory selection.
1. This memory module is not listed as compatible but works on your motherboard (you checked it yourself).
2. If the HyperX memory is guaranteed, replace it with a working set. This way you will have 2x4GB = 8GB of memory.
Will the 2x4GB kit work on Dual Channel then you can check it after the replacement. Check out the instructions on which slots to mount.
3. If you want more memory then you can buy one more same 2x4GB kit.
If 4x4GB memory will work in Dual channel -> you will only know after purchase and check!
thank you to everyone who responded I finally figured out that 4 of the 6 ram cards I was given are broken. therefore I have found the problem and fixed it. thank you to everyone again.
