I have been working on a document on my Windows 7 computer. That computer is having problems so I took out my jump drive and started working on the document from my Windows 10 work laptop. Now, the document is all messed up. Some of the content is missing and it has a bunch of odd-looking characters that look like hieroglyphics. Does anyone know if there is a way to restore the document to its Windows 7 content? Thank you!
Windows 7 has the 2010 version of Word, and Windows 10 is using Microsoft Office 365 Business. I'm not sure if the document uses any fonts available in Windows 7 that's not available in Windows 10.
I believe that a corrupted document file or a missing font is the most likely cause of your problem.
Corruption can sometimes occur if you unplug a USB drive without first Ejecting it or Safely Removing it in Windows Explorer. You could try opening the file in repair mode as described in this support article on the MS-Office support site:
Are the hieroglyphic-like characters appearing in whole blocks of text? If so you could try changing the font to see if that corrects the problem.
