It might help us to answer your question if we knew the manufacturer and exact model number of your laptop computer.
If you are having problems with the charger port, it may be that the problem is with how the socket is attached to the printed circuit board inside the laptop and not with the socket portion for the charger plug. A broken solder joint caused by mechanical stress applied to the port can cause all kinds of problems and possible damage.
