A computer tech set up my w10 start screen to look like my w7 start screen and I loved it. I hate the w10 big block look. Somehow I knocked it off my system and I cannot figure out how to reset it to the w7 look. I admit I do not understand w10. Can anybody help me. Thanks

If you right-click and remove each of the tiles on the desktop, you will wind up with a workable Windows 10 start menu.
After that's done, click the Windows 10 logo in the lower left corner to expand the start menu, then go to the top of it and drag it upwards to its maximum height.

Sounds like you are looking for "Open Shell."

Open Shell is the continuation of Classic Shell, which was is a collection of features that were available in older versions of Windows but were later removed.

Features:
  • Classic style Start Menu for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10
  • Toolbar for Windows Explorer
  • Classic copy UI (Windows 7 only)
  • Show file size in Explorer status bar
  • Title bar and status bar for Internet Explorer
