I'm one of those people who like to blast music in their ears. (Yes, I know the dangers.)
I recently got my computer fixed and updated to Windows 10. Now, my volume won't go above half the sound output even when I have everything at max (See Image).
I've tried everything to fix it:
1) Enhancements Tab - Loudness Equalization/Bass Boost doesn't work. In fact, it sounds worse.
2) Drivers are all updated.
3) Uninstalled, reinstalled sound drivers 3 times.
4) Changed the format under the "default" tab in the properties section.
5) All volume settings on individual apps are set to max.
None of this helped. The driver is just that "High Definition Audio Device" from Microsoft. I don't know how to find out the specifics of it beyond that. Any ideas on how to fix this besides what I've tried?
We know nothing about your computer, so please do the following in it:
Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) file.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return back here, then copy-and-paste its entire text in your reply.
If your computer's audio device is listed in the Device Manager as "High Definition Audio Device" instead of its actual name, that's an indication its driver isn't installed.
What's the exact version of its driver in its properties window?
Oh. Okay thank you. Here is the information requested from both of you:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 94 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 16339 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, -1 Mb
Hard Drives: C: 111 GB (70 GB Free); D: 931 GB (748 GB Free); E: 931 GB (521 GB Free);
Motherboard: ASRock, H110M-DS/Hyper
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Enabled and Updated
Should also be smart to add that I am trying to use headphones for this. They worked fine before the computer went down and on a different computer though, so I don't know if that impacts anything.
You have a Realtek ALC887 7.1 HD Sound card on the ASRock Motherboard.
I couldn't find a reliable source for Realtek's site, but I did find it on ASRock. Click here for ZIP file
Extract the folder to your desktop, then run the setup.exe file. That should fix the sound. I would recommend uninstalling the device driver for the machine right now.
Wow... Did what you said and quality jumped. Thank you for that! However, I'm still having volume/loudness problems. Now the speakers are actually going to max, but the apps are not? Youtube videos and spotify are still too low for my preferences. Adding images to show what I mean.
try this: right click on the sound icon, then click on Sounds.
Click on Communications. Judging by your image, this may be set to Reduce volume to 50%. Try selecting Do Nothing and apply that setting and see if that helps.
Computer rebooted. Apps still not giving enough sound. Ack...
Is there a difference between the headphones jacks in the front and back of the computer? I'm using the front ones atm. Does that matter?
Unfortunately, there wasn't a difference, but I am starting to think it may have to do with the headset. I changed the computer to have sound come out of the monitor and am getting better sound quality and volume from it. My monitor is connected to the hdmi though, so does that mean the sound is coming through the graphics card?
Either way, I'm probably gonna buy a new headset to test it. I thank you guys for all of your help.
So, turns out the audio jacks are utter crap. I bought the new headset using USB connection and it sounds 100 times better.
