On startup I get only a white screen. I have checked the video connections. I tried a new motherboard in case it was a video chip problem. I applied pressure to various spots on the rear of the display. Still a white screen. It doesn’t show a dvd. I connected to a tv and nothing came up from the display nor the dvd. Any other suggestions before I trash it ?
Thanks for your response. I did check the cable at both ends. I have ordered a new cable through EBay to see if that works -$6. Not sure if a new screen is worth the $, though I will check EBay again. Is there a way to test the screen or just a process of elimination ?
Which Toshiba Satellite C655D model laptop do you have?
(A dash and additional characters after C655D comprises the complete model number)
From what I can determine, the C655D models were introduced in late 2010 - early 2011.
They supposedly sold for about $400 U.S. and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
You didn't say what you did to yours before the white screen issue occurred.
The rest of the model # is S5130. I believe you are correct on the timing and the price. A few years ago I was getting a blue screen of death on the Toshiba and my wife bought me a new laptop so the Toshiba sat in a closet for the next few years.
Just recently, I bought and installed a new SSD and Ram for the HP from my wife and I decided to also try and fix/upgrade the Toshiba. I cloned the first SSD with Acronis and put in the extra Ram. I tested that SSD for the Toshiba in the HP and all was well. Other than that, I can't think of anything else I may have done before the white screen.
The only way to test the screen would be to connect it to another laptop, not very practical for most people.
Hopefully the new cable will fix it, if not a new screen is about $40 on Amazon.com but if you get the screen's details, which should be on a label on it's back, you could search for a used one on Ebay.
If you can connect an external monitor to the Toshiba laptop it shows a normal display then the motherboard's video should be working properly, if not then the problem could be the graphics chip on the motherboard.
