In the last two months my Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro laptop has developed a targeted issue with the s and d keys. The rest of my keyboard functions properly but the s and d keys have a moderate to severe delay. Sometimes they will function normally... sometimes I can get them to respond after two or three attempts, other times I need to hold the key for several seconds to get a response.
The s key is more affected than the d it seems but once I do get it to respond it repeat the letter without issue until I let the key go.
I'm guessing it's just the keyboard failing, but on the offchance it could be a software fix or even a hardware fix I can do myself? I wanted to see if any of you had some advice.
If you have an external usb keyboard you can use that while you get the problem sorted
s and d being next to each other one may suspect something has been spilt in that area
You may know if this is the case
Try an air duster spray - on the keyboard with the laptop upside down that anything released from the keys is likely to be more easily displaced
Disconnect power remove battery before using the spray
Thank you so much I had no idea there was an on-screen keyboard!!! Using it right now for s & d. I'll try cleaning it all out to see if that is the problem.
Cheers let me know how it goes and if no good I can send you instructions for replacing those keys
It is not an easy job, I have done it with success and if it works it is cheaper and easier than replacing the whole keyboard, but as I said try the air duster spray first
We replaced a keyboard in an Acer Aspire. The keyboard was only $30 and my husband is very happy. One of the clips under one key broke so replacing the key would not have worked.
I may be mistaken, but some Acer Aspire keyboards actually lift out from the keyboard side and require minimum dismantling of the laptop
However I think the model in question is one where the keyboard does NOT unclip from the keyboard side and requires extensive dismantling of the laptop to replace it.
