In Google Crome: When I type something in order to search, only two letters appear in the search-window. Chrome displays several suggestions based on the two typed letters but prevents me to carry on typing, as it makes the virtuel keyboard on my tablet disappear.
That is quite annoying!!
I could find no setting in Crome, that would disable that annoyance.
Can any of you guys help?
Boy - it is annoying!
Thanks,
Anders
See if this helps.
Open Chrome and click the 3 dots.
Click Settings and Scroll down to Advanced. (should be at the bottom of the setting menu)
Click on Advanced and you get more choices.
Slide the “Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar” switch to the Off position. It's under the “Privacy and security” header.
Hello plodr,
I know what you mean and I have swept across the advanced settings, over and over again.
As another forum member in this thread indicates, there is no such setting in Chrome/advanced...
I wish there were
That would make things so much easier.
I have downloaded Chrome last week, so it must be the most current release.
Best,
Anders
It seems that from Version 76 they have removed that option...
Falling short of Clearing Browsing and AutoFill, I am not finding anything else... however a suggestion was to go to Settings > Sync and Google Services and turn off Autocomplete Searches and URLs.
Hello Couriant - and thanks!
Nothing seems to help on my tablet. Cleared browser data and disbled the above autocomplete searches settings.
Closed down Chrome and relaunched the browser...
Chrome gives a darn I can input two letters and woops the touchscreen keyboard drop down. I have to retype in the search input field and this time it allows me to complete typing.
Boy - what annoyance!
Is there anybody by Google who offers support of any kind?
Best //Anders
So with the autocomplete disabled, you type a couple of characters and then the onboard screen disappears? Does that happen in other browsers by chance?
Is the tablet running Windows or android? (I have 2 working android tablets so I could test Chrome, which I rarely use, on them and see what happens). I can also spend a bit of time examining options.
Hello back plodr,
My MS Surface Go tablet is running Windows 10 latest feature update.
I would appreciate any effort you have the time to put into this.
Turning the autocomplete off should, in my opinion, have handled the issue but it makes no diffrence.
Let me know if you discover anything.

First I checked current version. It is 79.0.3945.130 (Google Chrome is up to date), so the article must be a little outdated
Anyway, I ran the command Chrome://Flag - ran a seach for "Enable Touch Events Mac Windows, Linux, Chrome OS option" but it is nowhere to find!
Couriant, it truly sees quite uphill. Anyway, thanks again, now it has been checked out as well
That has been my consideration as well.
However I like Chrome.
Thank you, both of you for your time and effort.
Anybody that I could ask in a Google support?
Take care,
Anders
Hello AmyToo,
The MS Surface Go Tablet is brand new. I did a clean install on Google Chrome. I have no knowledge on extensions or add-in's.
As mentioned in my initial message, the onboard keyboard disappear right after writing the first two characters in the search field on Chrome. I have to start over again. No matter what related settings disabled, Chrome wants to auto-
complete the search and the onboard keyboard drops out. Very annoying....
