Hello, I am having some problems with my computer. I turn it on and this pops up “An operating system wasn’t found. Try to disconnecting any drivers that don’t contain and operating system”. I have no clue what that means. Can someone help me fix this problem thank you.
Ok, try to find the model number of that HP desktop, should be on a label somewhere on the case, Option 1 here should help you find it :- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07555
When you first switch on do you see a message on the screen showing which key to press to go into the Bios Setup ? It's probably F1, F11 or F12 but may be another.
If you do try tapping that key just after switching on and if you get into the Bios look for an entry about the hard drive and tell me what it says.
HP's support website isn't working for me right now.
I would open the case and check all the cables are installed properly, by disconnecting them then connecting them fully into their sockets. Check the hard drive connections first.
The machine is 8 3/4 years old. I suspect the hard drive may have died if the computer cannot find the OS.
When you boot up, there should be an option go to do Diagnostics or SupportAssist (F10 or F12 I think) but I don't know what the exact button or action it would be. It may be in the BIOS section too (F1 or F2).
